So I was asking this the other day but seeing as it seems even more likely now, what do people expect potential restrictions to be?

I reckon curfew on pubs and maybe no mixing outside households for a few weeks? Can't see pubs closing.

Pretty much this.

Doesn’t half term take place at different times in different places ? That’s certainly the case for other school holidays

I think in general Half Term is the same however some schools have one week off and others have two.  (My girls go to schools in the same area and each have different amounts of time off.... which is really handy!!)

Agree with both of the above and also shielding brought back.

I think they’ll hold back on advising us to work from home and avoid public transport for now although that could be the next thing to go.

Cheers. It'll be sold as "you didn't follow the rules so now we have to do this" then. Even though the rule of six was never going to work wonders at this point.

I don’t have enough evidence one way or the other to say whether people are following the rule of six or not, but I unfortunately reckon that even if everyone complied with the rule and only meets 5 others at a time, that wouldn’t be enough to stop an outbreak. I hope that it can be brought back under control without a full lockdown, but I think there is going to need to be tighter social distancing rules for a few weeks. I’m dreading the impact of it on my mental health though.

The only thing I remember about my dreams last night is that I had bad flu like symptoms and booked a covid test through work.

That was it. That was the dream. Try harder, brain!

I dreamt that I got a parrot tattooed on my leg. I’m not even that bothered about parrots.

Yeah I think you're right. Even if people did follow it strictly, it's not going to have a major impact if pubs, schools etc are all open. As some have said it actually allows more households to mix than the previous role so could even enhance the spread. One of the reasons I was against it.

It won't massively affect me as I live with my partner and work from home. We're barely doing much of anything beyond the odd bit of distanced socialising but that's probably only about twice a month. So I'm lucky I guess?

If you're really worried about your mental health I suggest thinking now about any measures you can take to prepare for it, maybe that involves staying elsewhere or something. I know you've said your options are limited, just worth looking into things I think.

My main worry is that I can't see my friend if she goes back into shielding while she is undergoing cancer treatment. Such a shit time for their whole family and I really wanted to be there for them in some way. Was worried enough about transmission before this all kicked off again.

Gyms closing would be the worst for me (after not being able to see friends and family), but even that I feel better equipped for now I know I can exercise from home effectively for months at a time.

On the subject of gyms, mine have started relaxing restrictions. You're now allowed to use the showers again. Don't think they read the news.

Unfortunately like all measures everything is slackening off ... with the encouragement that they want things back to normal so they can function as they were as businesses ...

Circuit breaker my arse.

Only positive thing I have to say about it is my Wife is a teacher so we won't be stuffed when it comes to childcare for the two weeks being proposed so I wholeheartedly feel for anyone who will be affected in this way should it happen.

So bored of this absolute nonsense.

I opened up to a couple of people I know about how I’ve been feeling on Wednesday and they’re helping me through it. It was a big hurdle for me to get through. I had a massive personal issue in 2018 which I went to therapy for after having to be talked out of suicide multiple times, and I felt okay asking for help with that, because it was a genuine problem in my life. This one I’m a lot more hesitant with because ultimately, these restrictions affect us all so I feel guilty for complaining.

I’ve not heard any talk of gyms closing again, nor have I heard of any outbreaks connected to gyms. I’m actually in the same boat as you as I’d rank it, in order of importance to me 1. Seeing family and friends indoors, 2. Gyms, 3. Pubs and restaurants. But I’m confident we won’t see gyms close because from the sounds of things they haven’t really turned out to be the transmission vector that a lot of people feared they would.

Someone was on Virgin Radio (it sounded like Matt Hancock but I missed the intro) who just namechecked a sore throat as a symptom to use to get tested....while giving an interview trying to get people to get tested only if they have the official symptoms. He should of course have said cough....

Obviously we know that sore throat IS sometimes a symptom but it's not the one the government messaging is pushing....

It seems to me that we are all part of some social experiment where they aren’t recording any data from the measures they implement ... surely at this point they must have an idea of what a particular restriction does to the infection rate ? Don’t we have plenty of examples now from the U.K. and even around the world or is it simply us just guessing and hoping still ?
