Thanks for the apology. Should clarify I’m not anti mask by any means, just think that wearing them for 30 mins in a setting you’ve elected to enter (shop or transport) is a heck of a lot easier than doing an 8 hour work shift wearing one.

I share a flat with my brother and he tested positive over the weekend :( more bloody isolation for me, although somehow I’m still negative. Good news is that he feels absolutely fine and is literally doing online Zumba classes despite having a deadly illness

Hope you continue to stay well and he recovers! This virus is a strange beast.

What was his reason for getting tested? contact tracing?

We’ve been isolating since last weekend after having dinner at a mate’s house (the mate tested positive, also asymptomatic, after catching it from his brother)

I came back negative but he was positive. We’ve been living together the whole time and not distancing from one another. I’ve been tested twice in the last week and both negative.

It’s happening!

Staggering that 40% of people would still vote for those clowns. Can’t be many governments with a more shambolic first 8 months in charge. But promising trends developing at least!

Out of interest have contact tracers been in touch with him to see his contacts ? And all the best

For that to happen someone will need to contact the contact tracers. Most of them are sat at home wondering why their phones aren’t ringing.

I thought maybe mistakenly that they got people’s details that tested positive

I know but it’s baby steps, it takes a while for these things to change. Plus Boris is popular with vast swaths of the public too so that makes it more difficult.

Yeah they have. It’s done automatically through an online form and then if you don’t reply, they call you. I actually got a call this morning because I forgot to press submit on the form but I confirmed that I’m already isolating (have been for 8 days) and they confirmed I should continue to do so until my 2 weeks are up (but I don’t need to further extend it based on my bro being positive)

What land do you reside on, you clearly have no idea just how popular the conservatives are there is a whole world outside this forum labour won’t be back in power for a long time especially with Starmer in charge

This is because most contact tracing is automated. They only need to call someone who doesn’t answer the automated text message.

I agree with this, not because of the Starmer bit but just because the silent majority of the country hate immigrants, hate foreigners and think everyone on benefits is a scrounger. They  dont talk politics on the whole and just vote for the people who will sort out those things. Its just us lefties in the echo chamber of the internet who bounce around the same ideas amongst ourselves when those ideas will never wash with much of the country.

There's obviously a big debate on how much the media influences that but it's the reality that easily enough of the country will vote Tory by default to give the Tories the next few elections. Add to that their social media manipulation and influence over much of the media when it comes to crunch time, and nobody else has a chance.

I think the only thing we can hope for with Starmer is reducing their majority and getting proper debate back into Parliament, as its utterly pointless right now.

I do sometimes wonder if, as we don't have real choice due to the media anyway just an illusion of choice, if longer terms would be better. This lot are already campaigning constantly for popularity - if they put half that much energy into just doing things right (I'm not saying socialist perfect - let them make their money just while actually having a decent functioning government) then even more people would vote for them

I didn’t say the Tories weren’t popular, they clearly are given the election results. All I said was it takes a while for public perception to change which it does if you look back historically it does. It wasn’t a slight against the popularity of the Tories, I even said Johnson is popular.

It's a sorry state of affairs that this is true :(

Just really makes you think why would anyone want to put them in a mass gathering situation now; the chances of getting the virus are so high in those situations. I'll stick to my socially distant meals out and socially distant coast holiday next week.

Different people have different risk appetites. In the same way you think it's crazy people are going out clubbing right now, I still think it's crazy that people are "eating out to help out" when it's still not safe. One is much more risky than the other, but they both involve risk.
