I have a German friend who says everyone just gets on with the masks, and apparently they have a contact tracing app which is very good as well. She was shocked at how relaxed the rules are here compared to over in Germany.

I guess it varies from area to area then.  There have been protests in Berlin, according to my friend lots don't wear masks on public transport there.

Thats correct but completely bonkers

maybe it's just to try and get customers back shopping,,,rather than public safety?

I see it having the reverse effect for some shops like high street clothes shops...not so fun going clothes shopping with mates now have to wear a mask.

I agree t's nuts, if they are on the shop floor they should be wearing a mask. Above used Co-op as example, my local one is small with narrow aisles yet staff stocking up never wear a mask but ones behind the till with screens do - go figure

reasons not to today from colleagues were .....1)  I had a test last week , I dont have it and im not wearing it until its mandatory ... my response was that it protects others ... im still not wearing it until its mandatory .........2)  I wore them at the beginning and people laughed at me ...3)  they are too hot I cant wear them 4) and I dont know how many people told me today that it should have been done earlier .... like thats some kind of reason we shouldn't do it now !!!

Not being able to try anything on has definitely put me off, I've just ordered some stuff online.  Less hassle to return by post than to the shop. I understand why the rule is there obviously, but I can see it having a negative impact on the high street.

On Bank Holiday Sunday 30th August, Alexandra Park and Palace will open its gates for Kaleidoscope presents...Unlocked. This socially distanced outdoor music experience will be held in the Pavilion event space in the park.

Line up:

Norman Jay MBE

DJ Yoda (full AV show)

& many more to be announced

I was just coming to post about this. Basically a one-day festival innit? If stuff like this is going ahead this year, things would have to get very bad for festivals to be totally off next year.

It's a tough one - I'd feel sorry for shop workers on minimum wage having to wear a mask for 8 hours a day when customers are only having to wear them for a few minutes while they are in the shop! I can't wait to take mine off as soon as I'm out of the shop (especially when the weather is warm - sweaty face & all that).

I would feel safer if they were wearing them though!

whilst nightclubs and pubs and socialising non existent ... this will be more of an issue where that is concerned than mask wearing I would of thought ... no point having a new outfit and sitting on the sofa

It is socially distanced...maybe other events will have to adjust to that.

ive been wearing shields since ive been back  3 weeks now ... although they dont offer the same protection as masks an 8 hour shift is very possible in them ...  so they should be required as a minimum

Security staff could maybe do that role

A lot of retail security are on the shit NMW that shop staff are on, why would it be down to them?

PC plod are the law upholders, it's their job and not shop staff

My shop has had outside security since the beginning of the pandemic ... they have better powers and are much better than colleagues doing a job on security ..... I think someone on security at the door with proper door ID will have more chance of getting people to wear them  than the colleague on the door

theres definately a difference in what they are allowed to do then .... worded that wrong ... they are far more effective

There isn't and having been an SIA Door Supervisor for 12 years, we haven't got no more powers than you.

A 5 day training course and a £210 license gives them zilch powers or anything more than shop staff have.

Yeah but what does that mean? Does everyone get a square to dance in? Or do they hope that if they keep numbers low people will just space out? Not clear to me how that works.

Nor me, which is why I can't see it happening and therefore can't see non socially distanced events going ahead for the foreseeable.

Well just because it comes under the remit of security. They stop shoplifters don't they?
