Agreed - Hancock is going under the bus first surely. I guess Johnson is just considering who from his crack squad of top political talent to promote.

Hancock is doing the briefing today - weird as I thought Johnson was taking charge!

Yeah he's definitely being the fall guy for all this.

I've missed the daily briefing.

As a tory supporter what would you describe the successes in this pandemic ? and some of the things that might have needed some attention ? like posted elsewhere the furlough and support schemes do seem to have worked ... wondered what your take on this is ?

Is there a precedent for other countries where the PM doesn't do the briefings? Only comparison I have is NZ, as already mentioned (Ardern did every single one) and the US (I guess Johnson doesn't have Trump's work ethic).

I saw that just now, pretty interesting. Were Vietnam one of the countries hit really early on then got it under control through testing/tracing?

I think they put a lot of effort into quarantining and contact tracing because they knew they didn't have the capacity to test and treat people if they got hit badly.

Also, being a 1 party communist state probably reduces the number of people who are willing to say they don't approve of the government 😬

People keep looking at me like I'm some crazy conspiracy theorist when I talk about US/Trump money/links to the Tories. But I just saw this video of Steve Bannon talking about how much contact he has with Johnson and Farage and how he advises them.

That would go down nicely with some 😂

You are right though, probably explains why they are so high. Sweden was interesting too.

I've had this worry that this will be just as flimsy as the "quarantine" measures, and not actually be enforced properly. The government seems to hate the idea of actually telling people they have to do things, and of course especially if that something stops them going to work. we have the numbers and theoretical capability, but I just don't see it happening without "civil liberties" being compromised which seems to not be acceptable even to stop an infectious virus....

I know for sure that the system isn't running ... locally at least .

Well, I’ve not said whether being linked to American white supremacists is necessarily a good or bad thing

Ha touche.

Sometimes I think there could be a decent person in Matt Hancock, he also seems ever so slightly awkward which I find quite endearing.

I thought Sunak was starting to look pretty plausible - until he tweeted his support for Cummings.

Sunak has done so much during this crisis to help the population and the economy. As an accountant and auditor I speak with hundreds of clients and senior business execs who feel the furlough scheme has been fundamental in allowing their firms to not cut their work force. He has provided loans and easy credit and even grants to help businesses who are/were struggling with the lockdown. I feel sunak has been amazing and he should be recognised for his fiscal policy during this dreadful time.

It's a hard life for Tory supporters- they control nearly all the national newspapers, dominate the political and news agenda and have a zillion seat majority in parliament, but when they come to glastonbury forums people aren't polite to them. How exclusionary.  Life's so cruel.

Sunak has been one of the successes, no question. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him PM before the next Election.

No doubt his PR has been great, but behind the scenes it seems like he's been against the lockdown all along and has been pushing for it to be wound down ASAP. Was smart to realise it was better to pretend he wanted to do all the popular spending stuff he was being made to do.

I suppose what happens next is the key- it's easy to be popular when you're bankrolling everyone, but suspect that might change if (they might still do a big spending spree) he becomes a lot more stringent.

Museum is reopening in bermondsey next week. I've booked a slot for next week! No idea what it'll be like, but will be nice to go to something after so many months.... https://whitecube.com/exhibitions/exhibition/cerith_wyn_evans_bermondsey_2020

Should be plenty of old statues to see.

Edit, just seen it's all modern art, so there goes my joke.

Just because I vote Tory doesn’t make me a bad person does it! I vote Tory because the industry I work in and my clients benefit from their policy. Why does this forum have to be political as at the end of the day we are all here because we love Glastonbury.

Totally agree! He seems to have helped so many people and put people before politics

You vote for your own self-interest, that's actually how democracy is supposed to work, you vote for the candidate and party that represents you and your interests. The problem with modern socialism is that the people voting are voting for the perceived benefit of OTHER people (the underclass, minorities etc) because they believe themselves privileged under the current system and want to make society better for the others. This has led to the Labour party being run by and appealing to younger, affluent, middle class kids, while the older working class parents have no main party to vote for that truly represents them, this time Boris captured that vote but it remains to be seen if Labour can still appeal to the people they lost.
