If a significant number of that 20-25k are actually unreported Covid deaths how do you think they might have slipped under the radar?   You would assume they would have had clear symptoms so even with no test you would think they would have counted among the suspected cases.  Or are they perhaps from earlier on in the pandemic before we were really keeping track of it all?

I would assume it is older people in care homes or dying at home, not being tested and the cause of death not being recorded in the Covid numbers. It is important to remember this is "excess deaths" so a normal level of age related deaths are included in the base. The Euromomo site has been publishing this data, supplied by the european governments, since 2015.

The FT also did an article on this earlier this week, it is not a subject that is being widely discussed, probably because regardless of political affinity it is quite a dispiriting topic.

Is there anyway we can trick the system to get one of us on the daily press briefing and ask a question live on air? Imagine the bants that could be had.

Prime Minister, does your special advisor think that Foals' secret set was an audition for a headlining slot, and if so, could they also be sharing top billing with the 1975, or are they in a similar situation to Biffy who appear to have missed their chance?

Also, Prime Minister, if I may, why are you such a c**t?

This is what confuses me, covid doesn't kill you instantly, you would have recognisable  symptoms before you die I would imagine  so why is an ambulance not called for those in care homes? Any suspected cases are being counted (or should be), even if covid isnt the cause of death,  it just needs to be mentioned somewhere on the death certificate. A family member of mine works at a funeral place and if covid is in any way suspected then it goes on the paperwork and he has to wear the full protective gear when collecting the body. So the only way this would not happen is if care home staff didn't mention it and I don't see why they wouldnt? Maybe a few cases could slip through the net, but 20k?

Apparently at the funeral place they have said they are expecting to find lots of people in their homes further down the line, people who are isolated with no family, etc. Dead potentially from covid but also isolation/lockdown, no one noticing they havnt been out for a while like they usually would , things like that. Grim I know 😔

Depressing news and why I won't be changing my ways.  Also I heard yesterday that the R in Brighton where I live is 1.7- maybe we shouldn't be encouraging everyone to go to popular spots?  Also just read Greece opening up tourist routes but not to us due to our high death rate and being one of worst affected.  I find it shocking that people cannot see how awful a job the govt are doing, but maybe if the glimmer of a holiday is taken away they may start to realise we have fucked this.

One of my neighbours works in a care home and she's had residents collapse, seemingly unrelated to COVID, who then later test positive, so they think that it was COVID that caused the illness, even though none of the symptoms were typical.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's killing some of the frailer residents outright in their sleep, without any of the typical symptoms showing up.

True but they could also have been asymptomatic and died of something unrelated. But I suppose if it wouldn't usually happen or it's happening like that more frequently then it would suggest a link. Either way, with a positive test they would be counted on the figures but I don't know how routine it is to test in a case like that.

Mr Prime Minister does it worry you that your Duchy of Lancaster is stupid enough to like a porn video on Twitter?

PM: You've been to Glastonbury... did you prefer the Wednesday or the Sunday? (I'm still refusing to let that one go.)

As previously mentioned, that Sky reporter's rather cheeky question that you flagged, my mates from Glastonbury know him and they meet up with him at the festival, so in a way, it has (almost) been done!

(Failing that, I am a furloughed journalist - but I'm not sure how my background in b2b food magazines is going to get me in with a shot.)

There’s no way he’d make the Sunday ... he can’t do 3 press conferences in a row ... let alone 5 days in a field !!!
