No. The government message. Is stay home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.

This is why we will see the majority of restrictions in place for the next 3 weeks and the introduction of mandatory quarantine from international arrivals.

If it is still against the law to host parties I will continue to report those who do so to the police.

We’ve had an absolutely devastating number of deaths in this country so far and we need to really work together to minimise more vulnerable people getting critically ill and dying.

If the government say it’s fine to have parties from Monday, then fine, that’s their decision and one for the whole nation to follow. But if they just extend more freedom of exercise and open garden centres, then I hope people will continue to act sensibly to protect others.

If you want to let the government dictate every aspect of your life then fine, go ahead and behave as they say, I like most people went along with the lockdown as it was presented as a logical response to the threat we were dealing with, we have had 6 weeks to consider the facts and decide on our own whether it was the correct course of action. There is now very little evidence that a continued total lockdown is justified IMO, I might be wrong but I suspect most people are of the same opinion as me and so the UK next week will start to return to some kind of normality.

You been looking at those graphs? Did you notice the exponential growth stopping? Do you know what total lockdown actually means? Because we've not had one and unlike a lot of countries that have, we've not managed to do anything much better than level off the deaths (with a slight decrease, admittedly) - but our soft lockdown has halted the growth.

There's a reason that laws have to be enforced, because if you left it up to everyone to make their minds up, they'd decide that lockdowns don't do anything, or go on a death conga or something else equally silly.

I'm sorry I cannot agree with your opinions. If you think you're life has been tough over the last 7 weeks then please consider all the people in hospital fighting for their lives right now (13,000 of them) and all the family members who will be heartbroken as they have lost their loved ones.

Any rational and sensitive person would not agree with your opinions. The UK will not be returning to any sense of normality until perhaps next year; social distancing is going to be around for a very very long time.

You are lucky with your wild opinions that you live in a country as free as the UK; you are lucky to not live in a country like China, Poland, Austria or Italy where lockdown has been strictly enforced, but this does not mean you should be acting irresponsibly and disrespectfully during this time.

The point of tomorrow's announcement is so the government set out the road map of a sensible exit strategy for over the next 6 months, how we can keep the R0 less than one. If you were in charge and people would go around having parties next week, the R0 would shoot back straight up above one again and 2 weeks later another lockdown would be required for another 6 weeks. (you are lucky our lockdown is nowhere near as strict as in other countries- it is certainly not a "total lockdown").

If I was in charge of this country (which im not, so I will respectfully follow governmental advice even if I don't agree with it- not disobey it like you are suggesting people do), my main priority would be getting the economy up and running again and getting workers safely back working again. PPE provided to people going back to work and face masks required for those travelling on public transport. I would reopen non- essential high street stores, with face mask requirement for customers and strict social distancing measures on the inside. That way businesses can start to earn again and people get their jobs back.

By no means should people going round having parties be at the top of anyone's priority list right now. It is beyond disrespectful to everyone suffering. All those critically ill right now, all those who have died, all their loved ones and all those unemployed and struggling for cash.

This is why we have the highest death rate in Europe, because even though we have a good proportion of sensible and mature people in our country, we have irresponsible idiots who act selfishly and are causing more vulnerable people to be affected by this virus.

We need to keep the R0 below one. That doesn't mean we need to stay in the same situation we have for the last 7 weeks. We move forward, but we move forward in a slow, steady and sensible manner. By no means should parties be promoted and no one should be expecting a sense of normality again for a long time to come. It would not be fair to rush back into normality now and undo the actions of the last 7 weeks.

This is terrible as a slogan. Stay alert for what???

perhaps "stay alert" should have been the govt's own slogan during February and March?

Cos if Spaffer wasn't on holiday, the UK's death count could be less than 10,000 right now.

these people are so fucking thick that they think the lockdown is "unlawful".

Perhaps they ought to stop reading USA conspiracy websites? Just a thought.

If you want the virus to dictate the lifespan of you and yours then fine.

It's one thing to think the lockdown is too restrictive, it's another thing entirely to ignore the evidence of 50,000 dead bodies.

Do you need those bodies piled up on your doorstep to notice there's quite a lot of evidence?

BBC this morning is suggesting the new alert system to be announced tonight is level 5 (red) to level 1 (green) and we'll be told we're at level 4.

So why does this new slogan switch from red to green graphics? A small thing maybe, but scenes in London parks this weekend prove people are struggling/too stupid to follow the messaging - so why add any more room for ambiguity? Be consistent.

This new slogan is so poor.

Couldn't help feeling uneasy at the lack of social distancing involved and the tone of the VE celebrations in the last few days. My estate has looked like an EDL rally all weekend.

I agree but some of the photos used in the press are deceptive.  I suspect if you showed an aerial view, groups isolating together are 2+ metres apart.

"Stay alert, control the virus" makes it sound like Covid-19's going to sneak up on you in a dark alley, and you've got to wrestle it to the ground.

It's about shifting the blame to the public.

If you get the virus it's not because govt policy is flawed, it's because you haven't been alert enough. ;)

Me, I'm staying alert, alert enough to know to swerve the Cummings/vote leave/Cambridge Analitica  we-can-misuse-your-data-forever "NHS" app.

The thing is under the current restrictions we are not supposed to be socialising 2 metres apart. The 2 metres apart guidance is for unavoidable contact while exercising or going to work or the shops.
