I'm not going to get into a bun fight over this, the government stance is clear. If a minority continue to think and behave differently then no doubt more measures will be bought in. People are dying

Well, if I was on my way to the shop across the road for beer, and he was down a drain and offered it to me, then I’d certainly be tempted to take him up in his offer.

😂😂 your never see the head shot coming

This is a pretty dull post but genuinely intrigued on people’s opinions. I go to Tesco to do a big shop and don’t stockpile but buy as much as I can to avoid going again for as long as possible. I’ve also got a shop opposite my house, so it’s a 10 metre walk. The thing is you can only fill a basket there, so you can’t actually buy that much. I’m trying to avoid going in there repeatedly, but as an example yesterday I went in and got some beers and a few odds and ends that I needed. Now today I could do with a few more beers, I suppose I’m asking what’s your view on popping into the local shop more than two/three times a week?

Actually..  I think going to a shop twice a week is fine. Not every day, obviously. Plan your shopping a bit. Don't go around touching everything, wash your hands when you get in, abide by the rules when you're in there. Get as much as you can carry (if you don't have a car, which I don't), ideally to last a week, and then you have one emergency shop in the reserve tank.

The advice is this, no? In almost all countries you are still allowed to go to the shop to buy food. If you're very old or have underlying health issues, sure, get it delivered. Personally, I'm not in a high risk group, so going to the shop twice a week doesn't feel like dicing with death (and I live alone so not gonna be passing it on anywhere) and I think almost worse to get people to bring it to your door risking their own health.

I wouldn't go every day. But I also don't think it makes you a total asshole if you go to a shop to buy food (or, yes, even booze) every 3-4 days.

I have made a massive online order of booze,  but naturally there is a huge backlog so deliveries are taking a week or longer. Many aren’t even taking online orders anymore.

While you're out, mind grabbing me a couple of cans?

"

London’s O2 arena, once known as the Millennium Dome, is to be turned into a training facility for NHSstaff working at the new Nightingale field hospital set up nearby.

The 20,000 seater stadium, which was due to host acts including Snoop Dogg, the Pussycat Dolls and Whitesnake, will be used as an educational training facility. No patients will be treated on site.

Mobile phone company O2, which has a £125m naming rights deal for the east London venue, has handed over the keys until 29 June.

The company said the NHS is not being charged a hire fee."

Sorry, I really don't understand this. I literally just googled the government guidelines...what I've said is totally in line with it. A once (twice if necessary) a week shop, when I stay 6ft away from everyone and they are the only people I'm remotely near all week, is well within the rules.

I also don't see that this level of scrutiny and judgement helps anyone...?

Apologies, didn't mean to judge, just that my interpretation differs from others, that's all.

I'm not going to get into the morality of it, there are obviously balances that have to be made, but I will say this - the supermarket is a hub.  It's the single most dangerous thing any* of us will be doing during this lockdown unless we go to house parties or something ridiculous.  Far more risky than sitting on a park bench for a few hours, and certainly more dangerous than going for a walk.

You need to buy food to survive, that's why you're allowed to do it. They're only considering banning exercise because you can survive without it - not because it's a risky.  Unless anyone knows any better (E.g. @Toilet Duck), as far as I know, your shopping trip is the* most dangerous thing you're going to do now.

* I missed I big thing there - obviously if you still have to go to work, that's much more dangerous than going to the shops.  Especially if you work in the hospitals.

I've only just realised that I'd been picturing you as working as Tesco the last few weeks. No idea why, but I was shocked when I found out you're an ASDA man.  Shocked I tell ya! 😄

It most definitely is the most risky thing I do. That's why I've completely changed my shopping habits (I used to go every day on the way back from work) and I buy as much as I can carry...

This just shows how different people have got different ideas about this.

I'm working from home, haven't been in contact with anyone apart from when I've been to Tesco Express at the bottom of my road, twice a week - for the last 3 weeks.

People are still working on construction sites, factories and distribution centres as normal.   The factory opposite my shut down office building makes non-essential air con parts and 50 guys still go in there every day.   They aren't alone.

Judging someone who doesn't have a car for getting food is a bit out.

Fucking hell look at all those people. Is that normal? We drove on past our supermarket today with a queue just a fraction of that size.

I'm trying to work out ways to stay ahead of the guidance.  Stay more than 2m away from people, go to the shop as infrequently as possible, wear protective gear, that kind of thing.

its one of the busiest days of the year ... its quite a big shop unfortunately i probably cant give weekly sales figures ... looking at that photo it could be 30 trolleys queueing but because of spacing looks far worse than it possibly is ... unfortunately I didnt take the photo . but unfortunately regulars do still return every day ...

Shopping-wise we're lucky. There's a cash and carry up the road that normally serves all the hotels, bars and restaurants in the area. Now that has dried up they are open to everyone locally. It's easy, even preferable, to buy in bulk. They deliver or offer collect.

There's also a few farm shops close by who do the same. We usually try and support other local businesses at the best of times but we feel it's even more important now.

The lake district is closed though which helps with numbers of people I suppose. There was footage the other day of the local police escorting a car back to the M6. Strange times indeed.

One big Tesco in London by the highway had a queue across the whole parking lot. It looked like a queue for a rollercoaster ride.
