Why not?

Because it’s a brand new festival . You bought tickets for Glastonbury 2020, not 2021. Unfortunately 2020 ‘got cancelled’, but it’s not the fault of everybody hoping for tickets in 2021. They’ll just start from scratch and not complicate things.

2020 cancelled.

Deposit refunded.

Existing ticket holders to get first refusal on next year's event, linked to registration number, with a payment window a week before the initial sale in October.

Those who don't take up the opportunity, tickets go into the regular pot.

Seems like a fair process to me.

When other events have literally said they're rolling over tickets, there's hardly "no debate".

None of us have a clue. Unfortunately that's not a sexy opinion.

Other events are pretty different ticket wise to Glastonbury, aka not gold dust. I know it’s shite for those lucky enough to have got 2020 tickets, but it makes far more sense to just start again. New festival, new tickets.

There won’t be a delay, it’ll be cancelled. They’ll probably allow tickets to carry over (easily done with the tech they use and maybe tempting if they get to sit on the money) or give current holders first refusal, whichever is easiest for them.

But you have a ticket , what about all the people who don't this year and next to no chance of getting one for next year either

It’s really not that complicated - reg numbers and all that.  Really simple process to give first option / presale type thing to those who were lucky this year.

There’s no answer to the question that is not going to upset a significant number of people.

In my opinion the fairest solution is just to reset everyone back to the same place for 21. Shite as it is for those of us with tickets.

Exactly this - really simple to facilitate and fair as well

I think it's fine. It's about one specific aspect.

I was about to post my thanks to the OP for how well the title is phrased.

I just think there’s already too much negativity being created on this site.

This should only be a question that needs to be asked in the unlikely event that this year’s festival is cancelled.

FWIW I've got a ticket and I fully expect, and would be comfortable with, them refunding it and just doing a fresh sale next year.

They have enough fallout to deal with from ticket sales without everyone who missed out this year, regardless of whether it goes ahead or not, being told they're second in line next year.

I don’t think they can keep our deposits, legally. First-refusal would be such an easier prospect and what I imagine other festivals will do.

edit: but the easiest and fairest option would be fresh sale for 2021 with no dibs

No, I don't have a ticket. Means I would most likely miss out next year, too.

Sorry , I just assumed that you did as most people who are wanting tickets to be carried over have them

Please accept my humble apology
