Could be far higher than that I think.  They estimated 5-10k in the press conference on Thursday and it looks like doubling every 3-4 days so likely 10-20k by tomorrow.

For that to be true the death rate has to be far lower than 1% just based on number of deaths so far and the number currently in a critical condition:

Not saying it isn’t true mind, but the death rate is either really low or we’ve not actually got that many cases

I wouldn't be surprised once we are through this for the death rate to be below 1% - there has been a lot of talk of cases with very mild symptoms and the published numbers being an understatement.

At the moment UK death rate should be low as the NHS still has capacity to deal with the low numbers of severe or complex cases.  Unfortunately we know that is likely to change.

Surely if there's a sign of going on this thread too much, its this thread popping up as the automatic first Google option.

"The Gang Gets Put In Self-Isolation"

Though I'm aware "The Gang Gets Quarantined" is also an episode. If only for the sight of a hairless Frank coated in hand sanitiser going "I just wanted to be pure!"

The critical numbers are still pretty low as well thankfully. As long as people with symptoms stay away from the hospital who don’t need to be there and self isolate hopefully they can keep on top of it for as long as possible. Obviously it will reach a critical point at some stage.

And now Germany to close borders - source bbc.

Never thought I’d see the day.

We flew (stupidly, some may say) to Kraków from London on Thursday. By Friday afternoon the bars and restaurants were closing, by Saturday afternoon it was clear our flight (booked for today) would be cancelled as Poland were closing the borders. We had to fork out €1300 to hire a car, drive to Berlin, get a flight to Billund in Denmark to transit and get back to London, was a pretty rough day. Terrifying that if we’d not have been able to get to Germany, we’d probably have been stuck there. If this is how it’s going in a country with only minimal cases, I can see more drastic measures taking place here over the next few days.

Reporting the number of people who have tested positive, but are recovering well at home is basically pointless/useless information, and is actually dramatising the situation worldwide and causing this mass panic.

The only useful statistics that should be released are the number of people who have died, and the number of people in hospital/critical condition.

Which for us is currently 35/20

Which to me is why it’s glaringly obvious why we haven’t (yet) implemented more drastic measures

Yep. Not that I’m comparing this to other viruses as it is obviously a different beast - but if they reported the number of people with flu every day in the winter months, the numbers would began to rise, and a  similar panic situation would probably set in every year.

Interesting. I wasn't up on the Live Nation stock loss but it's not surprising. Here in the UK we've had few postponements or cancellations to date, except in the sporting world. Guess they're all awaiting government moves as these could have financial implications. Here if an event is postponed the promoter has to offer the chance of a refund and cannot just keep hold of the money.

Right, its slowly changing course here regarding refunds except for a few festivals who are twats. Everyones just waiting for new date announcements so they can decide to get a refund or not. But most people will still want to attend a show if given the chance. The money has been spent, no need to get it back. I was going to see My Dad Wrote A Porno next week and of course it got the axe when the large gathering ban went into effect. Its being postponed to early September. Ill have been holding onto those tickets for over a year because of this since I bought them last July. Thats what hurts the most is having had to wait so long and then the rug got pulled out from under.

It kills me with the notion of Glasto looming that it does not carry on. We don’t get a do over for the 50th, its not that simple. Yes, it maybe gets postponed a month or so  because we dont know what the Eavis’ are considering right now, but at least they have time to sort it out. Coachella literally had a gun put to its head and they came through in 48 hours, but thats not every festival if they were placed in that difficult of a position. A few others are postponing because talent wasnt the biggest issue due to genre or time frame. But Glasto is another animal and everyone knows it wont be the same if it was in August or the 50th was in 2021. If getting a ticket was not as difficult there wouldnt be these endless arguments over what to do.

im a hopeful one and I believe the festival chooses who gets to be there any respective year. If you get a ticket its your turn to go. Its just part of that magic that comes with it. After I went in 2017 I told myself I would be back for the 50th, and here I am with a ticket and staring down a virus straight in its face, seeing who budges. Ive already almost lost one festival, Im sure as hell not going to let this one slip by.
