My first ever gig.....

My first ever gig back in 1979 was The Buzzcocks at Newcastle City Hall (when I was 16!).

Back then, people didn’t bother so much with the “support acts” so I didn’t see the “guests” as shown on the ticket.....

I only recently found out who we missed when the guy I went with sent me this link and I’m sure you’ll feel my pain!! 😬

Yup... We missed seeing an early Joy Division!

My first gig was the Fleece and Firkin in Bristol when I was 17. Went to see local hippies The Moonflowers as there was a rumour (untrue) that The Levellers were supporting (for some reason). Met some friends there who recommended a gig there a week later to see a new band, Radiohead. That was my second gig - ticket was £3.50!

You talking "proper" gigs, festivals or local live bands that were playing for about 6 months when I was a teenager? 3 very different answers :)

Well I suppose your own interpretation.

This was my first ever ‘famous’ band that I saw play live.

Not sure you missed too much 🙈🙊😂

Other than bragging rights that I’d seen them in the early days I suppose.
I probably heard them from the bar and didn’t take much notice.
At 16 a few pints and I’d have been oblivious to anything.

In that case....

First was in '96, either James Taylor Quartet at a local festival in Kent that lasted 2 or 3 years, OR my brother's mate's band Regan who played The Clarendon pub up the road :D

First proper festival was V97 (Sunday only). Prodigy headlining at peak of Fat of the Land era.

First proper band was Levellers in Guildford in '98.

Slipknot at Hammersmith Apollo, All Hope is Gone tour. I was 12 and terrified

I took my sons to see them when they were in their teens (now 30).
everyone was wearing white face masks which was really quite unnerving.
I remember the drummer was on some kind of hydraulic platform and played upside down.
I was so much out of my comfort zone (and age group!) in the audience but I have to say they were bloody electric!

My first proper "international" gig was Elton John in 92. I was ten and went with my parents.

My first gig on my own was Oasis in 98. I was 15.

Both in Buenos Aires of course.

First time seeing a band abroad was Doves in Brighton 2009.

Ash supporting The Darkness at Wembley Arena, Dec. 2004

I saw The Darkness supporting Deep Purple before they were ‘known’ in Manchester.
On the night, they were the better band.
