Corona Virus - Should we be worried?

There’s no way Glastonbury is happening. I know some people worry about scaremongering, but we need to understand the reality of the situation.

We are at the start of this outbreak. The very start as far as UK concerned. This is a very serious disease. Markedly more deadly than flu. And the key stat is that 20% need hospitalisation - direct from WHO. That’s 1 in every 5 people in the hospital! The hospitals are full now and this hasn’t started.

if people cannot get into hospital and 20% need to, where does that leave the death rate!
 

The potential health, social and economic impacts of this are mind blowing!

It is hugely unlikely that Glastonbury would be cancelled. The only circumstances would be the government 'banning' the gathering of large scale public events. If that happens, you're looking at every festival, every major summer sporting event (Wimbledon, FA Cup final), large gigs, shutting large factories, etc. 

That will simply not happen. If we get into countrywide infections then cancelling events will simply have no benefits other than creating panic. The advice would simply be that people in high risk groups should be cautious about where they go, etc.

The more likely scenario to affect Glastonbury is bands pulling out because of it. Eg. Charli XCX would be ok cos she's young and healthy. Macca would be a risk. If the virus is widespread in the summer, Macca will be definately be a risk of pulling out.

A hot and sunny May wouldn't go amiss either.

If there is no way it's happening i think the organisers and governments would of recognised that by now and would of released a statement, no point talking in absolutes at this stage

Tokyo Olympics will be starting around the same time as Glastonbury with a much larger gathering of people in a worse affected area, until that gets cancelled we have nothing to worry about

Nonsense. For Glastonbury to be cancelled, the country would need to be in a countrywide lock down of all travel. Proper 'China style lockdown'. Ain't going to happen.

The transport network is a greater risk of infection spread than 200,000 people gathering in a field for 5 days.

Nah its okay stopwn1981 knows more than the English goverment or the organisers of the festival it self.

Or the people that run the Olympics, all the other festivals in May-July. Etc. 

For real, if Glastonbury gets cancelled, we have much bigger things to worry about. 

EDIT: If Glastonbury is cancelled. The country would be on lock down. Public transport, airports, shipping, schools, offices all done. Along with all other festivals in the UK around that time and more than likley any social gathering, wimbledon, etc etc.

Its exactly that, people are so in their mind that this thing is going to shut down the country that they refuse to hear otherwise. Same kind of people that said there would be mass food shortages the second a brexit vote would go through

Its just a comparison of people who seek out doom and gloom the second they hear something bad is happening. Its a real thing.

I'd much rather I make a strawman argument than say that Glastonbury is going to get cancelled which will more than likely go along with shutting the country down.
