Tenacious D ‘20?

Hey! 😀 long time lurker here. Been trying for Glastonbury tickets every year since I was 16, only succeeding for ‘17 and this year!

Just seen bonnaroo line up and saw tenacious d on there. What we thinking? Possible for Glastonbury?

They’ve been in UK around Glastonbury time before and never made it.

It’s a no from me, they’re a novelty band. Not worth wasting prime Pyramid real estate on.

They didn't even book a UK date in on their upcoming tour which I thought odd. 

Could they be the big leftfield act that was alluded to?

So the fact that thousands would love it doesn’t make it worth a slot on pyramid? Do you think Janet Jackson was a good use of a prime slot? They waste pyramid slots all the time. D would smash it, novelty band is irrelevant. I don’t think it’ll happen though.

As much as I love Tenacious D, I just can’t see it. Unfortunately they do fall into being a novelty. 
They are the same kind of act as The Lonely Island and I don’t think they’d ever play either

They are absolutely not the same as lonely island. They’re both solid guitarists and Jack Black is a good vocalist. They write all their own songs I don’t see what the problem is. Pretty elitist attitude if you ask me and I doubt the bookers share it. Have lonely island every even played a gig? They’re actors ffs.

They’re bonafide musicians that play comedy songs i’d classify them as nearer flight of the conchords than the others mentioned and I think the pantomime/rock opera style of Tenacious D could lend itself nicely to it. Would also work on west holts.

 

Doubt they’ll play though.

Whats your beef with comedy bands? I'd happily take D or the Conchords. If there's space for Spinal Tap.... or even tribute acts then there's space for comedy bands. As long as the songs are decent (looking at you Boosh!!)

I have no beef with comedy bands. I love the Conchords and would happily see them again. Enjoyed Spinal Tap too on the Pyramid back in 09, but they were fifth down and not really taking a prime slot.

Full disclosure: I think Tenacious D are a bit naff and not worth the big slot they would want.

They may be a novelty act but I do actually think musically they are very good. Kickapoo, Tribute, Beelzeboss, The Metal are all absolute tunes just with comedy lyrics. Would love them to see them

They sell out arenas all over the world, they're great musicians and very entertaining. They'd be a massive hit on the Pyramid.

I'd love the prospect of this, however only for the Tenacious D album. Anything after that was poor imo. The amount of shite on the pyramid they could make room.

saw them at Leeds festival in 2008, they subbed for Metallica, although they were probably at the height of their fame back then so don't know where they'd play these days, maybe a park headliner?

Saw them support Metallica in Dublin about a decade ago, really enjoyed them, would happily see them at the farm.

They were great fun then they did Reading. The whole crowd doing the Tribute 'ROCK AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!' is one of my all time festival highlights.
