Speaking to Somerset Live, a Mendip District Council spokesman said that local people will be able to give their views during a consultation period which will begin in the coming months.

The spokesman said: "Glastonbury Festival is currently reviewing plans for the camping provision both on and off site, and also the potential to increase the overall attendance number at the festival in June 2020, in line with the licence allowance.

"In the New Year the festival intends to hold various parish council and community meetings so that these forums are used as a mechanism for public consultation where any observations, issues or concerns can be addressed."

Did we already know about this?

I wonder what the plans to change on and off site camping arrangements will amount to?

I thought that but then would they need a consultation if it was already happening?

its just poor reporting from somerset live ... they do it for clicks on the site ... they get lots of stuff from here and anywhere else they can on the internet and patch together what they might like to call a story .... its happened already

They haven't already added the 7k though it was approved.

That looks to be right, but with the promise of public transport for the additional 7000 does this mean they are looking at another 7000 coach tickets in the resale? (Subject to the locals not objecting).

I thought this was a pretty decent stab at an article, considering it's not actually a specialist festival site. Lots of detail, even if it does contain inaccuracies - which I'm not convinced it does, although it may be missing some context.

isn't the main part of the story inaccurate though ? ... the 7000 extra id got wrong for 2020 ... but as above it had been approved

I don't follow you - are you saying the 7000 has already been approved so the story is wrong?

From the article:

"In 2018, Mendip District Council gave the the green light for Glastonbury Festival to increase it's capacity by 7,000."

It seems like this story is just an update.  Or am I misunderstanding?

Been chatting elsewhere with an esteemed board member and I think the above is key. Maybe it's part of why they were giving priority on Worthy View and the other place to coach travellers. Are they going to expand into even more offside camping and that's why they need the consultation? Given the additional 7k is already approved they could just whack that on without asking the locals.

ok ... ive been back and had a better read ... I had some preconceived thoughts of Somerset live that made me skim read the article without giving it some thought ... makes more sense now ... carry on ...

I share those preconceptions, believe me!  But I think this may be a different author to usual, a lot of work appears to have gone into it - although I'm sure it's not perfect, it seems be more than the normal lazy clickbait.

I thought the same at first.

Wonder if they're planning on another new off-site option as well as Sticklinch and Worthy View?

Or maybe there's extra space on site because of Sticklinch now?

@Sawdusty Surfer talked of an expansion to worthy view and we've heard nothing about the blue tents under the pier as yet ... so theres some extra capacity there

I thought we already knew about this - the 7000 extra was coach tickets and they created Sticklinch and moved the campervan field west to east and B&w? Isn’t it on the festival website?

Exactly what I thought...did we have anything official prior to coach sale that confirmed the numbers though?  Perhaps it didn't happen as expected and the 7000 is still up for grabs?
