2020 New Music

Probably of niche interest but lockdown tidying up has led to Malcolm and Aidan to find a load of old Arab Strap stuff. Released on bandcamp as pay what you want there's a mix of live recordings and demos. Haven't had enough child free time to go through it but it certainly looks interesting.

The Joan As Policewoman Covers album is a little hit and miss as covers albums tend to be but I am really loving her cover of Blur's Out Of Time.

Another new RBCF

Think I like this one better than She’s There, although not sure what I feel about the glossier production (especially on the vocals) on these new tracks. 

Still great songs, mind.

Came across Lauren Auder’s EP from earlier this year and I’m really enjoying it, closest comparison I could think of was King Krule doing baroque pop.

Really enjoyed that Hazel English album, feels like a cross between Tame Impala and Lana Del Rey...

Ist Ist's debut is great, although perhaps maybe a little heavy handed with some of their nods to other acts.

This song for instance goes from straight up Joy Division to straight up White Lies, who are effectively trying to be straight up Joy Division a lot of the time. I like it though. Album's worth a go.

Hayley Williams album is v good. Just a shame she chose to release two thirds of it as pre-release singles/EPs before the album release as it really diluted the whole album experience. Wish I’d had the restraint to not listen to anything past the first couple of singles.

I’m enjoying Eve Owen’s debut album that’s out today. It’s produced by Aaron Dessner and she sang on a couple of songs on I Am Easy to Find. Well worth a listen for anyone into The National or Sharon Van Etten.

I didn’t like the idea of so much being released before the album but in hindsight I love this approach. 
 

Instead of getting a bunch of new songs in one day we’ve had new songs spread over the course of a few months. I’ve really enjoyed being able to absorb each song and lyric.
