Maybe it’s just the circles you interact with but I’d say all three of those albums are staple pieces of this decade. AM and RAM definitely — I’d say the suburbs is the weak one of the three!

It was more your talk of being able to use them as a point of reference to the sound of other music released this decade. No doubting the fact that RAM was a big deal, but i haven't seen a load of copycats following it, though it's obvs given Nile Rodgers a boost! Same with The Suburbs and AM.

RAM will go down as this decade’s triumph of hype over quality.

Like it or not another one I’d probably add to the mix that I haven’t seen on here yet is + by Ed Sheeran. Very much set the way for Capaldi, Ezra et all and changed what sort of music became commercially successful.

Maybe I’m just a music geek but I like to look back on the decade and see what albums influenced changes in the music scene - and what could come next.

Maybe the only self-professed music geek to go to the mat for Ed Sheeran’s +. Nobody has said it because people usually list music that they like.

That kind of packaged artist was always successful though - Sheeran got in on a tried and true format. Did you not notice James Blunt and basically half of X Factor/Pop Idol in the noughties?

Going to do both in no particular order as I'm not a big fan of having to rank things...took me a while to think of these but I feel these are probably the albums that have stuck with me the most and that I often revisit.

Albums:

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid Maad City
Idles - Brutalism
Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 2
Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
Foals - Total Life Forever
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity
Bon Iver - 22, A Million

Dishonourable mention

Brand New - Science Fiction

Songs:

Midland - Final Credits
Kanye West - Runaway
Jamie XX - Loud Places
Car Seat Headrest - Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales
Idles - Samaritans
Lapsley - Operator (DJ Koze Edit)
JME - Man Don't Care

Based on listening frequency

( Worrying lack of diversity here):

1. Moon Shaped Pool

2. King of Limbs

3. What Went Down

4. Flying Microtonal Banana (KG)

5. Holy Fire

6. No Geography

7. I'm in your Mind Fuzz (KG)

8. El Camino (Black Keys)

9. Sea of Cowards ( Dead Weather)

10. Blunderbuss (Jack White)

I know, I should get out more.
