    • More than likely - Depending on strength of the clashes on other stages.

@Quark I hope I’m not getting too misguided, but I feel like there is a strong section of society which have some weird interpretation how things are. The type that slander Glastonbury and “it was better in my day” crowd despite never attending the festival long for a time when things were “more British“. This has been peddled very much by the media and influence of social media echo chamber communities in the recent years.

I see this on twitter all the time. People genuinely miss the days where British white guys with guitars dominated the industry and we were less accepting of diverse forms of music. I think they see Glastonbury as this pinnacle of British music which is being infiltrated by music that “isn’t british”.

I think the biggest issue culturally in the 2020s is getting to grips with the fact that lowest ball media - your daily mail, sun etc, which makes a fortune harking back to the past, still reigns supreme over the wider public. People have been conditioned into this narrative now that we have lost our Britishness... even though it’s really not based on any empirical fact. American acts have been playing Glastonbury since the start... but of course that’s just an “alternative fact” to today’s fake news media. Take the bits from the news that satisfy the “demise of British values” narrative and get on with your day.

I reckon you can split people up into pretty simple categories myself.

  1. Trolls who have no interest in anything other than ranting about stuff on socials. Don't go to Glastonbury, probably never have, unlikely to even have more than a passing interest in music. Just generating shit on t'interwebs. Pondlife who should be ignored at all costs.
  2. People who have their own idealised view of what Glastonbury "should" be based on having been once, watching it on telly, or generating their own festival porn by picking and choosing big name acts from the 50 year history without noticing or paying attention to the fact that those bands weren't all on the bill at the same time and were actually pat of a far more diverse lineup. "Better in my day" brigade.  Honestly have no concept of the number of stages available, or if they do they either think they all close earlier so you have to go the main stages or just don't get the concept of not watching the headliner. Marginally preferable to the trolls.
  3. People who have a bit more awareness or have been a few times, maybe with more interest in music, but massively limited in what they enjoy or choose to.  If they do go they live on a fixed set of rails between Pyramid, Other and maybe JPT. Refuse to believe that anything beyond Oasis, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Courteeners constitutes proper music. Probably find Killers a bit spicy for their tastes with the synths and sparkly jackets.
  4. People who do go and like the festival, recognise the breadth of stages and what's available and all the good stuff, but love to close out one or more of their nights at the Pyramid with their mates having a big old finale.  Generally more rounded in their criticisms and less likely to make you want to throw your phone / laptop out of the window when you read their comments.
  5. Neil Lonsdale / Daily M*il / S*n.  Bunch of c**ts.

Footnote: not a criticism of Oasis, Kasabian, Courteeners or those who like their stuff. Purely focusing on social media keyboard warrior complainers.

Which one are you?  ?

Why is it unforgivable?

I Hope, I Think, I Know better than anything on Morning Glory. D’you Know What I Mean is a massive tune. Be Here Now massive. It’s Getting Better (Man!!), massive with an 8 ball of flake.

This has just popped up at random on my Deezer Flow. Not a fan of the album as a whole, but I'll give you this one. It's a tune.

I guess we're just at an impasse then. No need to sink as low as calling me a Southerner though ahah.

Coincidentally I'm tagging along to see Noasis tomorrow does anyone know if they're any good?

Saw them a few years ago, their alright, not shit, but that’s about it.

Only by Noel. Liam loves it. I disagree n’all I’d say most lads I know into Oasis are way more into it than Morning Glory. Morning Glory for southerners and songwriting geeks. Be Here Now for the lads... ?

Was never like that I Manchester. Morning Glory still gets played on jukeboxes in pubs and in indie clubs. Not heard any songs off Be Here now out and about, for years. Fuckin In the Bushes gets played at The Etihad, thats about it.

A lot of this resonates with me. I spent my teenage years fervently believing anything that wasn’t four white lads with guitars playing indie rock wasn’t worth my time.

Looking back now it saddens me to think of all the great experiences I denied myself.

Dig Out Your Soul is my favourite Oasis album.

I’m not from Manchester I’m from Leigh. Most of my mates prefer Be Here Now. Most people from Manchester only know of other music from a Manchester band ;)

I’m a massive Oasis fan. That said the drum fill in Don’t Look Bang in Anger before the big chorus makes me feel deflated. Heard Wonderwall enough for 5 lifetimes, just can’t be arsed with it. Feel like they should only ever be heard at an Oasis or Noel Gallagher gig. I really like Morning Glory the song, I like Cast No Shadow, Some Might Say and Champagne Supernova.

Maybe overexposure is why I prefer Be Here Now. Maybe I prefer overindulgent music I dunno.

That must be what it is then. Oasis were a cockney band by the time Be here Now came out 😄

I like The Stone Roses, Oasis, The Libertines and Arctic Monkeys, all the bands who people on here assume the so called "gammons" only listen to if they say they're not a fan of a particlar hip hop/pop artist, but I also think Kendrick's done some good stuff too. Not my favourite hip-hop artist though, that would be one of N.W.A., Wu-Tang or Nas, hard to choose.

See, it is possible to listen to a lot of white male guitar bands, and also a lot of artists who don't fit that criteria. It's as if you can actually enjoy music based purely on the actual music and not to make some kind of statement about how woke/redpilled you are.

Shhhhhh, stop talking sense. Impossible to have a broad music taste if you like white male guitar bands.

Apparently Kendrick’s new album is all finished, and is gonna incorporate more of a rock sound than previous releases.

Well, it worked for Lil Wayne and Kid Cudi...

edit: Suppose that bodes well for having a live band with him on tour though which is good.

Also gives Chris Martin a chance to get on stage with his guitar again.

I feel he’s due a run out.

You got a source? Would like to read further into it that’s all.

Kendrick can do what he wants in my eyes. If he wants to go toward a rock direction like 99 Problem type thing fine by me.
