I honestly think the complaints are coming from people without tickets.

Ive seen it - people I know who’ve missed out are running to label the lineup as shit. Every announcement they have to find a problem with it.

yep Im pretty sure you are right ... twas my optimistic side speaking :)

Completely agree with that. Along with people who have never gone, a lot of the 'glad I didn't get ticket' posts I saw where from American accounts who then would say they've never been.

People who don't go to Glastonbury complain because they don't understand, sometimes people I talk to genuinely seem to believe there are about five stages and you have to watch the headliners. Here's a conversation with some guy I know (and actively dislike)

'Did you see Adele mate? Looked really boring on TV.'

'I'm not really a fan to be honest, I went to see New Order'

'It must have been annoying with her and Coldplay'

Like what the hell? I just said I didn't see her but that's apparently not enough.

I spent an afternoon the other day with some youth (18 year olds from south London) who were permanently listening to, and chatting about, rap.

Here follows my eavesdropping. Paraphrased:

“Biggie is the best lyricist ever” (debated but eventually everyone caved)

“Tupac is the coolest and arguably best rapper. Probably not dead, and if he is dead he’s the one we want resurrected to save us from today’s shit rap”

“Eminem is a genius but gone to shit”

“Kendrick is way over-rated and got no groove”

That’s all.

Oasis won’t reform any time soon if ever. How many people out there are actually demanding Glastonbury books Oasis, Led Zep and Pink Floyd?

Anyway I’m on a one man crusade to show everyone who pigeonholes Oasis fans I’ve got a deeper bag than them. ?

Two man crusade. Huge Oasis fan, but have always been open to other music whether it’s my brother and the byrds/beach boys/teenage fan club, my uni mate and slipknott/Marilyn Manson, my son’s godfather and waites/John mayer, a new friend and Jon Hopkins/four tet/chemical brothers, or this forum and Taylor Swift.

My bread and butter is Indie, but my belief is that the best of every genre of music surely has something to it and it’s served me well to date.

Oddly for years i was i a secret Oasis fan such was the opinion of others (it got tricky after be here now which i still think has some really good tracks), and stayed silent. Others aren’t that way inclined, and are closed off to a single genre and are extremely blinkered to it. It’s nowt to do with genre. I remember my mum’s shock when i informed her some people didn’t like Celine Dion after she spent my brother’s 40th slagging the doors off as crap. Of the people i mentioned above in fact the only one who i would say is open musically is my son’s godfather.

Anyways i know which is the best way to be, and have learnt to try and let the constant oasis slight’s slide away.

Have had almost the exact same conversations with people at work and a friend of mine. Most of the time its 'Nah I'll wait till the line up is out' and don't understand why I buy tickets 'so early' and also most the time believe its '£300 - £500 right? and then more to camp?'

Yeah mate know what you’re saying. Be Here Now their second best album after Definitely Maybe.

My Mam and Dad were into soul and northern, my Dad promoted it for a long time. I grew up listening to hip hop which exposed me to pretty much every genre through samples and me being a curious c**t always wanted to know what it was that was sampled. I’d go various record shops in my younger days and teens with my Dad and when he worked in radio used to be able to take promo CD’s of anything I wanted.

Then I got broadband in about year 9 and could dip into stuff other lads at school listened to Beatles, Stone Roses, Oasis and all that. Suppose my point is I was into weirder and more underground stuff as that what was around me growing up and got into your more typical young northern lads music ? later on.

You can like both. I’m as into Oasis as I am Can, Kraftwerk, George Clinton, Norman Whitfields productions, Pete Rock, Premo, Techno, Jungle, House, Dubstep any other supposed more worthy genre or scene I’ve probably dipped my toes in and had a little listen. Don’t understand this narrow minded ness on genre at all, especially when you can download anything you want for free. Go out and explore.

A lot of this resonates with me. I spent my teenage years fervently believing anything that wasn’t four white lads with guitars playing indie rock wasn’t worth my time.

Looking back now it saddens me to think of all the great experiences I denied myself.

I love Kendrick but kinda hope someone else gets the spot. No one from my group is interested and the Friday night is usually when we go SE corner for most of the night.

If Kendrick plays I'm gonna have to go, but means a lonely Friday night!

You are never lonely at Glastonbury. From someone who has been solo twice. There is no friendlier place on the planet

Never gone alone but do lots of stuff separately To my friend .. it gives lots of freedom and lots of chances to meet and chat to people  that you probably wouldn’t in run of the mill life ...

Right there's being an Oasis fan and then there's this unforgivable opinion ahah.

Why is it unforgivable?

I Hope, I Think, I Know better than anything on Morning Glory. D’you Know What I Mean is a massive tune. Be Here Now massive. It’s Getting Better (Man!!), massive with an 8 ball of flake.

I was taking the mickey a bit as it seemed like earlier you were suggesting that people think being an Oasis fan was unforgivable and also because that album is widely regarded as a massive step down by Oasis fans, and Oasis themselves for that matter. No harm meant man. For me all the songs are a minute to long (at least) and it just doesn't connect the same as the previous 2 (or The Masterplan after it) and although some of Morning is a bit lame and cheesy that helps belt them out when you've had a few scoops. Spent my late teens and early twenty's belting out champagne supernova at 3am when the indie clubs close so that song has been elevated for that. I rate Dig Up Your Soul well higher than everyone else so my opinion is by no means gospel here ahah.

Never looked at a line up and not gone to myself. Fucking hell clash City gonna be some hard decisions. Do people just not like tunes that much who slag the line up. Every year there is too much going on.

I reckon you can split people up into pretty simple categories myself.

  1. Trolls who have no interest in anything other than ranting about stuff on socials. Don't go to Glastonbury, probably never have, unlikely to even have more than a passing interest in music. Just generating shit on t'interwebs. Pondlife who should be ignored at all costs.
  2. People who have their own idealised view of what Glastonbury "should" be based on having been once, watching it on telly, or generating their own festival porn by picking and choosing big name acts from the 50 year history without noticing or paying attention to the fact that those bands weren't all on the bill at the same time and were actually pat of a far more diverse lineup. "Better in my day" brigade.  Honestly have no concept of the number of stages available, or if they do they either think they all close earlier so you have to go the main stages or just don't get the concept of not watching the headliner. Marginally preferable to the trolls.
  3. People who have a bit more awareness or have been a few times, maybe with more interest in music, but massively limited in what they enjoy or choose to.  If they do go they live on a fixed set of rails between Pyramid, Other and maybe JPT. Refuse to believe that anything beyond Oasis, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Courteeners constitutes proper music. Probably find Killers a bit spicy for their tastes with the synths and sparkly jackets.
  4. People who do go and like the festival, recognise the breadth of stages and what's available and all the good stuff, but love to close out one or more of their nights at the Pyramid with their mates having a big old finale.  Generally more rounded in their criticisms and less likely to make you want to throw your phone / laptop out of the window when you read their comments.
  5. Neil Lonsdale / Daily M*il / S*n.  Bunch of c**ts.

Footnote: not a criticism of Oasis, Kasabian, Courteeners or those who like their stuff. Purely focusing on social media keyboard warrior complainers.

Only by Noel. Liam loves it. I disagree n’all I’d say most lads I know into Oasis are way more into it than Morning Glory. Morning Glory for southerners and songwriting geeks. Be Here Now for the lads... ?

I guess we're just at an impasse then. No need to sink as low as calling me a Southerner though ahah.

Coincidentally I'm tagging along to see Noasis tomorrow does anyone know if they're any good?
