CV Fields - Pro's and Cons

I've tried searching for the answers to the above and if anyone can link me to a thread where people share their experiences that would be very much appreciated.

Our group are looking for CV advice on the differences between the East and West fields. In particular, what's the traffic like in and out of the newer (to me) West field. We camped in the East field 2013 when there wasn't an alternative.

We do frequent the Park area a lot and the thinking is for West this year.

Any thread links or responses much appreciated as ever ?

I think consensus on here is book which ever one is closest to where you finish the night, personally we go for East because it’s the most convenient one to get to and from on the Tuesday and Monday and is the largest so the scramble for tickets isn’t as mad.

pros of west is it has its own dedicated entrance so no queuing with tentists on Wednesday morning.

i usually have a fairly sober Sunday and get up at sparrows fart on Monday and try and be packed up and out of East CV by 07:00...

Enjoyed Sunday this year and so not away from pitch until 09:30-10:00...Normally 20 minutes to get onto A37 became nearer 2 hours.

We get there on a Tuesday (early afternoon) and it has always been easy getting in.

Have been at the arse end of E17 before and that is a schlep. E23 this year was a breeze.

The queue to get through Gate C some mornings can be a pain...

*note, i would put up with any of these challenges if i could only get a ticket.. ?

Traffic is much better in and out of West, whether you mean foot or vehicle. Virtually no queues in and out of the festival each day, and leaving on the Monday.

Whereas you can hit quite a queue getting into East (certainly on the Tuesday), will queue to get out on Monday (unless you go early or late), and the queue on foot to get into Gate C can be big, especially on Sunday (I don't know if they send all the local Sunday tickets in through that gate, but it certainly feels like it).

There are a lot of folk that pack up and load the car on sunday, ready to leave sunday night... a good number are these types coming back from the car.

@caballosblancos rightly points out that many of the folk we encountered were too clean and fresh-faced to have been camping. Definitely a whole load of Sunday tickets going through that gate last year.

it is not a traffic free zone that is for sure

What's the furthest away you can be from the site entrance in the West fields?

I've only ever been in a campervan in the East fields and you can end up a good 15 - 20 minutes away from the entrance if you arrive late on the Tuesday afternoon/evening.

There are only 2 fields in West, so maybe 5 minutes?

Thanks for the update.

I can't decide which one to opt for next year.

I've always been in the van in East but I've had enough of the walk in and out of the site. It's a grueller!

Having said that, West looks to be miles from anywhere once on site!

One day I intend to do of the CV fields. My car has a towbar so am considering buying a small caravan. I’d like one anyway, not just for Glasto, for impromptu weekend trips & maybe even a bit of a project with my father as he has lots of technical & wood work experience previous caravan ownership, electrician cousin & owning power boats.

I only have a 1.0 litre Ford Focus & it’s stated it’s not recommended for towing although I use a small Ifor Williams trailer.

With such a small car you might like to consider a trailer tent.  Small, light and compact to tow and easily stored.  With an awning they can open out to quite a size.  Alternatively the caravan make to hunt out is Lunar, who specialise in lightweights.

Thank you. My friends parents have a trailer caravan, we used to have sleepovers in their older one when we were younger & they didn’t want us making a noise in the house after coming back from house parties or the pub. I was surprised at how spacious it was & I don’t remember it being cold which is my biggest concern over them.

I will have a look at both trailer tents & Lunar. Thanks! We had an Adria, 6 berth towed by a 2.0 Mondeo so I know something of that size is out of the question & not necessary.

Edit: we are used to staying in hostels & camping so a slight (not big) step up to a bed, cooking ourselves & able to bring more drink is all we are after.
