Apparently he was sick, but he was still pants. Yes he was Sunday afternoon, but back then the 'Legend Slot' had not been codefied and trademarked. I saw Johnny Cash in 94. It absolutely was not the legend spot back then, but in hindsight it was in the right spirit, so I count it. Ditto Tony Bennett in '98. Though Sting in '97 is a bit of a stretch. ShuMart
1. Chic (yea technically Barry Gibb was the legend but he was crap) 2. Ray Davies 3. Lionel Richie 4. Shirley Bassey Worst one was definitely ELO

This will come as a surprise to folk like Neil Diamond and Shirley Bassey.
GrumpyRaver
I totally recalled Leonard being in the legend slot... I must have been a lot more wasted that year than I remember!

What I do remember is having a Glasto moment when leaving Avalon early from the best Billy Bragg gig I've ever been to because I wanted to catch her set. Before I got in it was miserable. When I left the sun was out, the overflow crowd outside the tent all had contented grins, all of the stall holders had turned off their sound systems and were listening to Billy. Just seemed like such a quintissential British moment and I just welled up. Leaving great things is what the British do best.
Badlands
What day did the Rev A. Green play? Paul Simon aside, there's not been a dud in all my visits. Though I spent a lot of Bazza snoozing. Probably the highlight of my weekend every year. It's one of the few times when pretty much the whole gang are there, the atmosphere is always fantastic. Shout out to Burt who played Saturday but was still awesome.
DareToDibble
Only seen 3. Lionel Dolly Kylie (mainly because I was so far back and right on the edge it was difficult to get into it)
CaledonianGonzo
The BBC4 clip show on it definitely muddied the waters by including non-canon acts like Willie Nelson and BB King. Fuck me. Barry Gibb was so glorious. Maybe less of a sure thing beforehand given inaccurate pipes scepticism. The end result was a fucking triumph. Matt42
Kenny Rogers and ELO were absolutely terrible. I remember Kenny Rogers actually saying to the crowd “well that was rubbish” or something among those lines after islands in the stream. CaledonianGonzo
Kenny Rogers has better patter and better tunes than Ladder Jagger off of The Hives.
