Hi Ken,

thank you for all your interesting information.

So can you confirm or gently nod that the story happened like this: MC had The Strokes, but HAIM revealed them before the announcement, so the Strokes cancelled their appearance, or we are missing some details, which were not told here?

Its just for the curiosity.

Thanks!

My theory is  the above happened but MC may of built bridges and said if we up the appearance fee by X amount of money can this be forgotten. Just a thought.

I think so, because the clue that ended up being The Killers and Kings of Leon could also apply to The Strokes. They clearly wanted to announce them that day. I think HAIM posted the draft that same day...

Yeah i think the quote was something like 'Americas biggest influencers on indie rock'  I could see why so many assumed it was The Strokes.

So in the past mad cool have fake teased, then announced who people thought it was later.

Ken19 seems to think the strokes deal is dead.

So it would be a cruel twist to place the letters s ( suggesting strokes) and an s and an R to suggest rchp. Then to announce mumford and sons and royal blood ( no offence to either).

Then theres the last bit of info that says mad cool wont be sorry.

So if i sum up all that i can see foo fighters who are inactive over that period but are in portugal 3 weeks before, the r could then be rhcp or rb.

Just a thought

If The Strokes it's not a possibility according to Ken19, I think the Libertines are playing in Benicassim one week later. I know they are not as big as Strokes but they are the classic indie band that could potentially headline (they are bigger than Royal Blood in Spain at least).

Foofighters have already headlined MC three years ago. It's strange that a festival repeats headliner so fast, but KoL were playing that year as well...

Why are you reading so much into this price rise? It's nothing to do with the quality of the act they've booked

I think the thought is that people who have not bought at the current price will need 1 (or 2) major signing(s) to get them to open their wallet at a higher price.

Basically all festivals I've ever seen increase their prices periodically. The first 15,000 tickets here where 10 euros less at Mad Cool when they first went on sale. With the full lineup out it makes sense to increase them again.

Some do, some don't. Mad Cool didn't in previous years if I remember correctly. This year they said the first batch of tickets was cheaper before (or as) they went on sale, but mentioned no further price increases (which would surely be an incentive for potential buyers).

They clearly had problems finding the last two headliners. If they had to promote a band to headliner status that would otherwise be second line at best and still increase the price that's surely a shot in the foot that could easily be avoided?

But the rumour coming from a guy in the know involves Mumford and sons who by all accounts despite being shite would be very expensive as they’re not even touring

my main point was looking at the lineup and how many big names are there I’m not shocked they’re upping the prices.

You seem to claim this with an enviable degree of certainty...

It's surely pretty normal for festivals to put up prices before an announcement? You're boosting the sales before and after.

If you say, announcement Wednesday and price rise Friday, then everyone waits till the announcement. This way, you generate a rush before based on people wanting to save a few pounds, or who are hoping for a band that might not be playing - while after, you get a boost from the fans of the bands just announced.

While there may be complications with getting headliners etc., the price rise/announcement happens for most festivals.
