I guess at this point The Strokes rumour has absolutely no idea what day?

Definitely not the Saturday, either Friday or Sunday. Both would be an awful clash for me. (if they are there.)

Notice Black Eyed Peas are also playing that French festival on the Thursday. Surely another potential name for an already stacked list of Pyramid potentials?

Is there any chance to have Gerry Cinamon around? Would be nice to have him in a big stage with the sun

Seems destined to be somewhere on the upper reaches of the Other Stage.

I had a conversation last night with someone who might have an idea of his movements, and they seemed like he wouldn't play unless he was headlining a stage. He has been selling out arenas by the dozen and a big stadium in Scotland, which is well beyond the touring schedules of your usual other stage sub/3rd. I suspect it's probably unlikely, but if he was taking a lower slot anywhere, Glastonbury would seem like a good place for that.

Last year during his John Peel set he said something along the lines that it definitely won't last time he'll play at Glastonbury, I'm fairly sure he was alluding to the fact he'll be back this year.  I reckon he's nailed on for a T'Other stage slot.

I know virtually nothing about Gerry Cinnamon and couldn’t name a single song of his. I have seen he’s a very big deal at the moment though. How big of a slot will he get if he’s booked? Weren’t people expecting him to headline TRNSMT? Other sub?

Wasn't there something about them not being big fans of the farm?

If Glastonbury was slightly more to the north he'd be a shoe in for Other headline, his stock drops the further you get from Scotland though.

This is fucking bananas

Anyone that greets the Glastonbury crowd with Hello London shouldn't be allowed back.

With ref to The Strokes;

What we know:

  • They are playing multiple slots at European Festivals this year
  • They said on Radio 6 that they weren't playing UK festival and doing their own show
  • Glastonbury don't pay as much as other festivals

What we think:

  • They are (still) in it for the bucks before anything else
  • They (might) have egos that mean they usually only accept headline slot (although this maybe related to the fees)
  • They are unlikely to ever play Glastonbury because of the reduced payday

Is there a bit of contradiction here? If they are only in it for the bucks, why would they not play Glastonbury if it fits into their schedule. Sure it won't be as profitable as a full paycheck elsewhere but they'd make money and get exposure(?); if they are that financially ruthless wouldn't it be more profitable than a night off?

If they are going to play 1 big show in the UK why are they not taking that approach with the rest of Europe? Surely these cost a lot more than festival appearances to put on (the infrastructure and logistics alone, and you'd normally expect a higher production level) and there would be significant economies of scale. Why would they take one approach with UK and a seemingly conflicting one with European festivals?

For a band that seem so cut and dry about the business rather than the art, either the festival circuit or exclusive shows seem to make the most sense, not a combination of both.

That looks insane. Can't imagune it kicking off quite so much at Glasto but 3rd down other would work i reckon.

A lot of very valid points. Should also be remembered that their mercenary approach to live shows over the last few years has been when they have had no new music to plug. Every show has been most, if not all, of Is This It plus the big singles from the other albums.

If they have a new album to plug them they may well be open to more and lower paying shows.
