I mean, just a quick look back through the last decade throws up:

2010 - Plastic Beach (Gorillaz):

Stylo, On Melancholy Hill, White Flag

2013 - Everyday Robots (solo):

Hostiles, Lonely Press Play, Heavy Seas of Love

2015 - Magic Whip (Blur):

Go Out, My Terracotta Heart, Pyongyang, Ong Ong

2017 - Humanz (Gorillaz):

Sleeping Powder (not on the album), Saturn Barz

There are also a couple of Gorillaz albums I haven’t listened to yet but chances are have a few decent tunes on...

You've got to admit there's a distinct drop off in quality after Plastic Beach. Or do you not?

But to undermine my own point you missed off Andromeda, which I love.

A drop off compares to his preceding 20 years maybe, but it’s fundamentally wrong to say he hasn’t put a decent tune out in the last decade...

The Magic Whip certainly had some fine moments.

Magic Whip and Humanz has some great tunes. I do feel like humanz got unnecessarily negative reviews. It wasn’t a bad album.

I agree he still has the ability to write bangers but ffs someone needs to stop him from naming is own projects at this point

He's bringing Blur back as 'Handsome Damon Albarn + Three'

Whoop a new Damon Albarn project. Another distraction to hide the rather awkward fact that he's not written a strong song for 10+ years...

*Spills late night coffee*

Everyday Robots is everything I love about the Damon. I also vastly refer that over, let's say, Plastic Beach.

Also: Merrie Land. I hardly skip a week without hearing this thing in full. How good is The Great Fire, for instance.

The Gallaghers haven't written a strong song for 20+ years!

In the spirit of the times, in scenes reminiscent of our boys playing football with the Germans on Christmas Day, even as an avowed Blur supporter, I am prepared to admit that this is an out and out banger:

Thoughts on the full 2009 TV set for those who were there? Absolutely stunning. What a night.

Brought back incredible memories, finally seeing the full set again. My favourite glasto (of 10) rounded off by the that set. Just amazing.

It’s my all time favourite headline set by any band anywhere.

Not actually watched it back yet, was going to on Thursday but kids got in the way. Got Monday pencilled in for it.

Random thoughts from a drunk:

- after Tender they almost fall apart as a band, they’re so caught up in emotion. Not that you’d noticed if you were there.

- Damon seems a bit off with Phil D after Parklife but I’m gonna day it’s cos he’s so emotional. That first verse of End of a Century straight after, he sounds so fragile.

- it doesn’t get any better than that, if you know you know
