It’s something that one enjoys which is at odds with how they present themselves outwardly.

"Whenever two people meet, there are really six people present. There is each man as he sees himself, each man as the other person sees him, and each man as he really is." - William James

“And if you’re at Glastonbury, there’s seven; because Chris Martin appears from the ether with his acoustic guitar.”

Yeah I get the definition, I’ve just never understood the concept.  It’s very strange. Why present yourself outwardly in a way that would mean you have to take on guilt for things you like.

Too deep, but it’s weird.

Because of the stigma attached to those things by peers.

I don’t think it’s strange at all; there are unfashionable things that you may like but know that others won’t so don’t wear it as a badge. I find it more strange that people deem themselves immune to it, and that they’d happily, say, go socialise with new coworkers at the pub and go over and put Blink-182 ‘All the Small Things’ on the jukebox and sit down like nothing just happened.

I guess we are just very different then, which is fine ?

She’s been saying it again... this time in an interview with Mail on Sunday.

It looks like this is going to happen!

“But my plan is for all five of us to do Glastonbury next year for the 50th anniversary. I’m in the process of persuading Victoria to do it. And I will make it happen.”

It depends I guess on whether you're choosing music you want to hear or things that you think other people will enjoy.  There are a few small bands I love but in company I will choose something a bit more recognisable to put on.  Not because I'm hiding who I am but just trying to be inclusive.  So in those circumstances, yeah,  I'd choose something I think more people than just me would enjoy.

Ok but that’s kinda the other side of the coin; leaning into the more socially favourable things, whereas ‘guilty pleasures’ is to do with subduing the more unfavourable.

I get why people are more relaxed about the idea when on an internet message board where we exist as usernames but don’t get why people would then feign confusion as to how one can be ashamed of some music they enjoy at all. Even if it’s not music it can be, idk, Love Island or Norbit or something that y’all can relate this to.

Ha. I’m really not feigning confusion. I like what I like and I feel no shame or guilt about it.
