The life of Pablo
Who should win and why? Who should of been nominated? Edited July 25, 2019 by The life of Pablo bad words
mcshed
Why do SEED Ensemble get their preferred capitalisation but slowthai doesn't?
FloorFiller
Pretty good list this year. Great showcase for British music which makes a nice difference from the past couple of years. Dave will win I think. Little Simz would probably be my personal choice.
Hugh Jass
My personal favourite out of the ones I’ve heard is Dogrel. But I suspect either Idles or slowthai will win.

Odessa
Fontaines album is my favourite, but I think the Dave record should get it. Also think The 1975 or black midi would be worthy winners.
gigpusher
Dave's album is probably the one that grabbed me from first listen and it's an important album with topics that deserve a wider audience. Lesley is a phenomenal track. This year there is quite a few albums that I'd be happy to have win and less albums that I've gone why have they been nominated so pretty decent list.
PDAD
Little Simz would be my preferred choice but IDLES winning it would kinda feel like the completion of the massive rise they've had over the last year or two. All in all though, it's a pretty impressive list this year.
priest17
Black Midi should win, Fontaines probably my favorite, I reckon IDLES or Little Simz will win it. Good list this year though.
HeyPorter
Wow that’s a complete turnaround from last year’s list which was full of stale has-beens. Dave and Fontaines put out the better albums but I wanna see Idles win it, the ascension will continue.
nikkic
What a great list for once. A lot of people I’d be happy to see win there. IDLES would get my vote.
fatyeti24
Yeah it's a better list than the last year or two. I made this point last year, but I think it bears repeating. The British jazz scene has been putting forward amazing groups and albums in recent years. They've broken out from niche clubs to big stages at major festivals. Glastonbury even had a venue specifically for this music. And yet the Mercury list has no more than the token amount they put forward in any other year, while there's no shortage of guitar groups, several years into the era of nobody really giving a fuck about guitar groups. I just heard Gaz Coombes talking on the radio. He's one of the judges.
CaledonianGonzo
In the judging room he rated each album as to whether it was Alright or not.
WM Hall
as long as it's not fucking Idles 1
CaledonianGonzo
That's hardly fair. Fontaines DC are also a load of old toot.
DDave
As long as it's fucking IDLES 1

dingbat2
Not sure if they fit into the right time frame for the Mercury announcement, but wondered if Snapped Ankles might have appeared on the list, their last album was superb in my opinion, one of the best I have heard all year Saying that, thats a pretty cool list, much better than the populist lists of recent years I think Idles will win it though, just pipping Fontaines DC
The Nal
Bands have to pay the Mercury Awards for their album to be considered for this load of old shite. Baffles me every year. Has done for 25 years. "Awards" for music is fucking weird.
SighMo
Fontaines D.C, Idles or Little Simz for me...love all three of them.

Superscally
Fontaines all the way!
fatyeti24
I don't know a great deal about any of them, but I'm going for slowthai to win.
PhanganDan
Idles hopefully but Fontaines would be a dream but too much pressure on them going forward. Black Midi are amazingly bonkers & different, slowthai the bolocjs, I couldn't argue with any of these 12 winning tbh
Mouseboy11
Great shortlist this year, I think Little Simz wins it. Would have backed her at 8/1 if I wasn't skint.
