Ticket sale day / spreadsheets etc - Slack idea

So, in my continued sulking of having missed out on tickets this year, I've been wracking my brain to think of ideas that could help not just myself, but many others on here, get tickets for next year.

The fact so many lovely genuine people on here want to help others, is awesome and there have been some great success stories. While I think the spreadsheets serve a purpose, it feels like it needs a new approach on the day.

So here's my suggestion (and this is in no way designed to obviously move any traffic away from here, it'd be used purely for ticket sale day!) - has the idea of using Slack been broached?

Basically, you have private invites to a Slack group and then there could be individual private channels of 6 people (ticket max).

Then you have a real-time conversation on the morning of ticket sale with those 6 people, with you all trying for one-another. You can quickly share success, or go to the main channel if/when you get lucky and help others.

The idea is that alongside your other helpers, you have at least 5 other dedicated people trying for you, all with the same aim.

Thoughts? I'm happy to drive it, I do similar in my day job. We use it for incident response and team comms and it's great.

Neil - shout or DM if this goes against any forum T&C's or simply isn't the thing to do!

My group of friends do this already and it's worked every year until this year, in addition, once a group has tickets they try to get tickets for the next group so by the end of it there's lots of people trying for the last group.

Only problem is that communication can get get a bit complicated when there are lots of people trying for the tickets, trying to swap credit card details over a different channel (because you wouldn't want to put them in slack), but all can be worked out and it will definitely give you an edge.

Mate, if you don't get a ticket, it doesn't matter. Just bunk in, its easy enough to do.

I have never so much as even registered for tickets, yet gone for the last 4 years it has been on. October, or whenever it is the tickets go on sale, is far too early to be getting organised to get a ticket. Besides, breaking in is often far cheaper.

I'd actually love to see my 62 year old Dad, who I go with, trying to get over that fence and out-sprinting the security! :)

There are so many ways of wasting time on the internet. Don't you feel like diversifying your life a bit? Why not do something else than trolling this forum? There's even porn for free out there! Go! Go! Go!

It may seem that you are increasing your odds of getting a ticket with this strategy but as everyone else has decided that the "group" approach is the best there are less chances of getting a ticket for those who only want a couple. People need to understand there is a difference between wanting a ticket and wanting to make a booking. In the general sale there are 113,000 tickets up for grabs, but if everyone who gets through books 6 then only 19,000 bookings get made, you therefore have to be one of those 19,000 to get a ticket.

If the average person booking only wanted 3 tickets there would be twice as many booking slots available and you would have much more chance of making a booking and getting a ticket, by booking for a group of 6 (if you get through) you are reducing the number of booking slots available to your other "friends" so the result is there is little benefit to doing this. Add in the additional time taken and the possibility of making a mistake or one of the group getting through already (via another group of six) and the benefit diminishes further.

I would like the festival to limit bookings to 4 with maybe an exception for couples with 3 or 4 kids who would have to register as a family to book 6 together. I doubt there will be any change this year though. I'll probably be going for 2 or 3 tickets, but I won't join a group or add anyone additional to my booking.

My only problem with the spreadsheet style is that if someone on a group doesn't play fair and is elsewhere it can knock the rest out.

I saw it on another forum where it stopped a few getting tickets and the perpetrator getting there's

I got tickets with only a satellite connection in a very rural location in 2017 and yet last ticket sale I was on a high speed connection and still nothing.

My daughter always appears to get tickets and the person buying there's is in the US .

I think I will try the cmd and r route again refreshing every so often and wear my lucky pants

Just bullshit fullstop.

rigghhhttt, well you carry on cacking your pants at the ticket sale, concocting spreadsheets and trying to get a ticket at 9am on a Sunday morning using a laptop and a phone, ill just carry on breaking in each year and paying far less than you. The joke is on you as I am not the one being mugged off here, and if you think its bullshit then that's fine as it doesn't affect me in the slightest.

No, the festival and every other ticket buyer is. Pricks like you don't tend to think about anybody but yourself though, do they. Victimless crime, right? ?

STOP PLAYING IN TO HIS HANDS

He doesn’t bunk in, everything he says is a load of baloney. I find some of what he says actually quite funny. I find the people that believe he’s actually telling the truth and a real person quite baffling.

Well if he is making it up and having a laugh he's not doing a very good job of it. It's perfectly possible/believable that somebody could get in every year in a trader's van or whatever so it's not a very "clever" lie. I've also seen no evidence of it being a joke as it's not been funny at any point. So what reason do we have to believe that he's not just an entitled little prick boasting about not paying for a ticket? None, as far as I can tell.
