Oh shit, that can hurt - my sister had it a couple of years ago. She ended up having to get special insoles for her shoes.

nature of my job walking on hard floors all shift .... it'll pass in time im sure but its certainly not been comfortable for the last week or so .... I forget at times I need to be extra careful with my feet ... typical bloke just grinning and bearing it

I got over it by switching the shoes I wear to more trainer-like smart shoes with heel pad inserts.  Took a few months to fade away but it has yet to reoccur

ive had the shoes years but that might well be a solution if my insoles dont do any good ... definately something ill bare in mind if i dont see any improvements

currently have self diagnosed plantar fascilitis .... so im having issues walking on hard services particularly ... nightmare ... just seen I need to contact doctor cos of my Diabetes ... wish me luck with that one 😞

Sympathise with you, suffered for a few years with that, and yes walking on hard surfaces can be agony. Very painful especially in the morning. Eventually bought Orthoheels inserts for my shoes, on the advice of the specialist in a Dr Scholls  shop.   They basically realign the way the foot moves. After a few weeks the pain went, though always kept the inserts. They were about 30 quid a pair .

just reading through the replies is there any efesters not suffered from this! 😊

Thanks for the tips on the IT band issues above guys!

Thanks - I think my post on this wasn’t recovered after the site went down!

I finished!  Finished 82nd out 350 odd people who entered.  Took 12 hours 15 minutes.  Throughly enjoyed it!

However, I have been struggling with some knee and IT Band issues following the run. I think this is largely due to body mechanics as I am so unbelievably tight in my hip/hamstrings/glutes and I think I am now paying the price.  Have been stretching and strengthening those areas with the help of a physio over the last few weeks and seem to be making some progress.  Should hopefully be back to normal in Feb and able to start training for the Ultra Trail Snowdonia 50k, which is in July.

Nice one, dude!

Well done and congrats! Amazing placing! (I'm a back of back-er: Goal A: Finish. Goal B: Don't come last!)

Ultra Snowdonia 50k is..............brutal, isn't it???????

Yes I’ve heard it’s pretty tough!  10,100 ft / 3,100 metres of elevation gain in 50k!  It includes essentially two summits of Snowdon (one via most of the Rangers path and the other via the Pyg track).  There’s a 100k and 100 mile version which look totally crazy.

A guy at work did the 100 miler and came like 15th or something. Absolute beast. I've only just got talking to him. He said it was pretty sketchy in parts: he passed some huge drops in clear daylight, but said he'd've been pretty terrified to have traversed those parts a little later in the pack when the mist set in. F*** THAT!

At least the 50k sounds a little more...manageable!

Gosh - respect! They’ve changed the route slightly this year so although you have the same elevation gain, some of the more sketchy ridges have been removed on the 50k. You don’t have the horrific direct ascent up Pen Y Ole Wen for example. I think in earlier iterations of the race you also had to do Crib Goch! Should be a lot of fun in any event!

Starting on Halloween I had managed 67 day streak running every day. Alas yesterday I felt like shite and this morning got my first positive test of Covid.

Gutted to have lost the streak to that and not a massive hangover. I was hoping that I could keep it going until Glastonbury.

Ahh well. Start again when I am allowed back out into the wild.

Plantar fasciitis sucks. Ive had a couple of spells of it and i've found that rolling the soles of my feet on a golf ball helps immensely - a good couple of times a day, as hard as you can stand, the full length of the sole of your foot - something to do with separating the inflamed areas apparently. It feels like a daft thing to do, but it bloody works on me

100% change your shoes.

Go to Runners Needs and get your gait analysed before purchasing a new pair.

Another good one I did for PF was to freeze a 500ml plastic bottle of water and use as a roller. I used a golf ball too. I was lucky and managed to get on top of it before it got too advanced.

golf isnt something i have any interest in, so i had to hang around the local golf course like a hoon and find some lost balls in the undergrowth - i quite enjoyed it, its as close as i get to being a thief 😄

ive just looked for individual balls for sale .... sets of 6 is as small as they go .... so ill end up skating round the living room .... I used to have lots acquired from a local driving range but no idea where they are now 🙂

  • 2 weeks later...

Best thing I did for my fitness was getting a Peloton. Laugh all you want but I'm going to stand by it as the best bit of kit I've bought fitness wise in my life. Still got a ways to go to get in the shape I want for the festival but it's helping. Been plagued by a series of minor small injuries whilst running which really knock me off my stride and let me sink into bad eating habits so it's helped as a way of getting some exercise in. Anyone else got one?

Just need a money tree!

Zwift was the close competitor when I was doing research! Looks really cool. Ultimately I also need a money tree, but Peloton is just a monthly payment. I do it instead of a gym contract. I know it has this w*nky, middle class image but I love it and the music selection they have is fantastic. They've just done a Bowie series and generally the playlists are tip top, makes it enjoyable
