Very painful especially in the morning. Eventually bought Orthoheels inserts for my shoes, on the advice of the specialist in a Dr Scholls shop. They basically realign the way the foot moves. After a few weeks the pain went, though always kept the inserts. Have been stretching and strengthening those areas with the help of a physio over the last few weeks and seem to be making some progress. Yes I’ve heard it’s pretty tough! 10,100 ft / 3,100 metres of elevation gain in 50k! It includes essentially two summits of Snowdon (one via most of the Rangers path and the other via the Pyg track). A guy at work did the 100 miler and came like 15th or something. Absolute beast. I've only just got talking to him. He said it was pretty sketchy in parts: he passed some huge drops in clear daylight, but said he'd've been pretty terrified to have traversed those parts a little later in the pack when the mist set in. They’ve changed the route slightly this year so although you have the same elevation gain, some of the more sketchy ridges have been removed on the 50k. You don’t have the horrific direct ascent up Pen Y Ole Wen for example. I think in earlier iterations of the race you also had to do Crib Goch! Should be a lot of fun in any event! Alas yesterday I felt like shite and this morning got my first positive test of Covid. Gutted to have lost the streak to that and not a massive hangover. Ive had a couple of spells of it and i've found that rolling the soles of my feet on a golf ball helps immensely - a good couple of times a day, as hard as you can stand, the full length of the sole of your foot - something to do with separating the inflamed areas apparently. Laugh all you want but I'm going to stand by it as the best bit of kit I've bought fitness wise in my life. Still got a ways to go to get in the shape I want for the festival but it's helping. Been plagued by a series of minor small injuries whilst running which really knock me off my stride and let me sink into bad eating habits so it's helped as a way of getting some exercise in. Just need a money tree! Zwift was the close competitor when I was doing research! Looks really cool. Ultimately I also need a money tree, but Peloton is just a monthly payment. I do it instead of a gym contract. I know it has this w*nky, middle class image but I love it and the music selection they have is fantastic.
