Pyramid pit?

What's with the Pyramid 'pit' set up this year?  TV shows a double barrier this year with a 3m gap between...?

The second barrier's been there years, just to avoid bad crushing.

The gap between I'm presuming is another safety measure, there's been one or two of the bigger shows paused while a route is made to someone suffering in the crowd. Maybe from that gap they can keep watch, get people to some breathing room... just speculating.

I was wondering too about the little extension at the front of the stage too, with a mini stage there. Pretty sure that wasn't there in 2017

Aye - it was for Adele.

Glad its gone though as it significantly impacts pit capacity.

It was for Stormzy last night as he used it for a couple of songs to be closer to the crowd.
