I feel like by starting this thread, I will upset the weather gods.

Given the stonking heat (potentially) coming our way and the lack of shade on site. Does anyone have any good tips for staying cool and avoiding heatstroke?

Bring an umbrella.

Drink plenty of water. I'd go for a 1 beer = 1 pint of water combo.

Cover up. Taps aff isn't the way forward. Sunburn raises the risk of sun stroke.

Don't stress as that'll raise your body temperature.

A soaking wet towel around the shoulders or bandana around the head will help massively.

Also seek out shade if you need can. Yes it’ll be hard, but there is places on site that will have it and it’s better then sitting cooking in your tent if you can find some.

Drinking water and wearing wet clothes is definitely the way forward ?? Im made of the most delicate, pale Irish skin so if I don’t behave sensibly around the sun, I get very messed up very quickly. Did a marathon in 30 degree heat last year ? jeez, that wasn’t fun

Live in the UAE so heat is kind of our specialist subject...

So much drinking water. Add electrolytes to your drinking water to combat sweating and replenish your body salts (we love these: https://www.amazon.com/Gu-Hydration-Drink-Tabs-Lemon/dp/B00W4IML30/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=gu+tab&qid=1561107066&s=gateway&sr=8-6). Pint of water for every alcoholic drink and you can start hydrating in advance - lots of water on Monday and Tuesday. Bring a bandana or something, soak it at the water tap, put it under your hat or back of your neck. The most breathable clothes you have - linen is ideal. Make sure you keep ducking into shade routinely.

In the sun, alcohol really is the biggest danger, just mind how you go with the sauce during the day.

If the state of the ground permits, wear trainers/sneakers/gym shoes/zapatillas/whatever you call them in your country instead of walking boots and take them off every time you sit down to take a break. Keep your feet as cool as you can and the rest of your body will follow.

Has anyone any tips on keeping your tent cool so you're not baked out of it at 6am?

I've just bought a load of those reflective heat blankets that I will try to put on the side of my tent. Not sure how well this will work. Anyone tried this or something similar?

Yep. In between the 2 skins of your tent. Use bulldog clips to keep them in place. Don’t put em on the outside - they rustle in the slightest breeze and piss off your tent neighbours. ?
