This whole Neymar saga is mental. He pushed for a move to PSG which in turn meant Barcelona deployed some pretty shitty tactics to sign Coutinho, who forced a move from Liverpool.

A year later and Coutinho (+ Dembele) is being used as a makeweight in a deal for Barca to bring Neymar back.

Football has gone mad.

Nope. That's double our previous record signing (Almiron in January). We did spend 40m in that January transfer window under Pardew.

Well last season he scored 6 goals in the league for a mid table German team as their third striker.

I know he got a future star card on FIFA this year. Seems a similar player to Heskey

It seems like a lot of trust in a scout network. That or Ashley is doing a favour to an agent again.

Let's get it right though, he hasn't spent a penny, that's cash he's built up over the years of selling our best players. Also, it's the absolute minimum. The team is about 6 players light at the minute and we've just spent about half our budget on a striker.

Well we sold Perez for 30m already, it's not 10m so far this summer after - 20m net last year. 

Still 0 clue if he'll be any good.

It's also a signing they hope they can shift on for a higher sell on. We could have had Rondon for 16m but he wanted a high wage and had no sell on value.

He'll have to set the league on fire if they want to make much profit from 40m. Granted he is only 22 but still.

Perez at £3.5m was almost always going. to provide a profit. You can't expect that at a 40m buy.

Really? 40m isn't exactly a huge amount in the market anymore. I reckon if he has a couple of 10-15 goal seasons Newcastle will think they can demand double what they paid.

all depends how good the scouting is.

Liverpool picked up 'unknown' Firmino from Germany at a decent price and that's not worked out badly at all.

You never know.  

As a Newc fan if you've not got hope what have you got?

Firmino was a Brazil international when he signed for Liverpool!
