New South Wales coroner sent to look into drug deaths at festivals; concludes dogs should be banned, testing facilities introduced, and even decriminalisation:

https://completemusicupdate.com/article/new-south-wales-state-coroner-to-recommend-overhaul-of-drug-polices-at-music-festivals/

"in her report Grahame writes about her experience attending two music festivals to see the state’s anti-drug policies in action. “There were lines and lines of police and dogs. I was surprised at how intense it was”, she writes. “It made me feel nervous”.

The report later recommends that, “given the evidence of a link between the use of drug dogs and more harmful means of consumption (including double dosing, pre-loading, swallowing drugs and insertion in a vaginal or anal cavity), the model of policing music festivals be changed to remove drug detection dogs”.

Other recommendations include “decriminalising personal use of drugs as a mechanism to reduce the harm caused by drug use”, and “the introduction of a best practice model for pill testing/drug checking”.

File this one as “another sensible voice that will be ignored."

Like anyone with a brain has been saying for years, education and information are far more effective than restriction and criminalization.

May be true, but hedonism, compulsion and addiction is more compelling than education and information.

If life fundamentally provides, you tend to stop indulging. That's not an age thing; few of us can determine our path, but it remains true. It's why most people who partake are either young or unfortunate. Happens to be a fact.

Fat chance of anything that progressive happening unfortunately. It would be great to see testing facilities at glasto next year though. They have them at other uk festivals don’t they? Wonder what’s stopping glasto?

~Emily did say they would have them last year .... think its a licensing issue

Police objection so I heard (probably from on here).

Would mean they'd have to turn a blind eye when they know people are in possession.

I mean last year there was only 13 drug related arrests. I would assume they were dealing-related and I dont think having testing on site would stop them from arresting people with the intent to sell. Also people with intent to sell will not be wasting their drugs getting them tested, so turning a blind eye near the testing are shouldnt really affect anything.
