The sticks and stones rhyme is to help children who're being bullied feel better - not a code to live by.

I don't mean that because of this rhyme it is ok to intentionally offend someone, just that people need to be able to walk past something that offends them when it is not directed at them with that intent.

In the case of the (one or two?) people who were up in arms about Killdren playing Glastonbury, agreed.

Actual bullying - words will never hurt me - is a different matter.

So do I - how could we be so wrong! - and I thought that were great live as well, or least I thought that until self appointed arbiters of taste informed me otherwise.

All that time we thought we were just enjoying their music, we were really just being groomed to murder Tories! The shame! Quick Glastonbury, protect us from this wicked band!

There’s a bloke called Frank Sinazi, his act is literally changing Frank Sinatra songs into anti sematic lyrics, he plays Glastonbury every year. Why isn’t there outrage in the media over him?

We can joke about killing jews but we can’t joke about killing tories?

This "story" like so many in the media seems a bit desperate. Where did it originate i wonder? it's clearly part of the Corbyn smear at any cost campaign that Murdoch has been ratchetting up since Corbyn became Labour Leader. The Festival gave a platform for Corbyn therefore attack the festival and its lefty supporters by association. The Press don't like us you know.

Ay? That an actual thing?

Edit: after a brief Google.. It is an actual thing.

It's not about offence though. It's about the context in which the words are used.  Punching up is generally ok, punching down generally isn't.  Words can be used to harass or intimidate vulnerable people.  They're not just meaningless noise.

The sticks and stones rhyme is to help children who're being bullied feel better - not a code to live by.

Yeah, without knowing the context it just seems like a dweeby kid's rant about the shit that gets played in bars and clubs. Which, for the archetypical Smiths fan that most of this board were at 17/18 years old, seems like a really smart thing to request in the shite indie discos playing landfill and Britpop you have to go to because all your mates aren't as precious or individual as you are.

I read that’s Guardian article too but didn’t Marr say he was listening to Chernobyl news and then Wham came on? I think that was the origin.

Morrissey is pretty abhorrent now and clearly had some dodgy views throughout but not sure that particular song is really a racist tirade in this case - Marr seems sound still anyway and hasn’t disowned it

I suspect that if it was a right wing festival who had booked a band whose lyrics called for the killing of Socialists, there might be a different response here.

Thing there is that socialists are good and tories are evil bastards.

I for one will be boycotting the festival this year over this decision. :P
