I seem to remember Michael / Emily Eavis mentioning that the final Glastonbury headliner will be revealed on the 15th Jan... Also that it's a male solo artist who hasn't headlined Glastonbury before... Could be holding out for the same artist?

It's Kendrick. Also it was specifically Michael who said that and he is known to be highly unreliable at the best of times.

FYI Sufjan was in talks to do some European festivals this summer. I can't imagine he's big or popular enough to hold up the lineup announcement (most likely Frank Ocean) but there was definitely some rumours about him at least considering shows.

Michael said that before Taylor Swift was announced and she was then announced on the 15th December, so I think Michael probably just got the month mixed up there.

About that "th" twitter thing, my memory fails me so I ought to ask, do they sell tickets on the exact same day they announce the lineup? For some reason it sounded reasonable in my head for them to announce the lineup and only the day after put the tickets back online

I've checked this every other week thinking it'll be clearer when they're going to announce the line up next time

The only mistake this year was tossing up too much excitement with the indication the Line Up could come in December and the subsequent RPS announcements that then didnt really bring about anything and now people have been expecting the line up for too long.

the lineup is late. it is not years ago, it's 2020. All of there competition has most or all of their lineups released for a long time already.

Competition has never been a factor for Primavera. Also, 2018 is not years ago. 2019 was early, 2020 isn't late.

Yeah, totally. 

Coachella and Glastonbury perennially release with less notice.

And frankly after a decade of superb lineups, Primavera has earned the right to announce whenever it suits them.

Gabi was teasing the lineup in November and said he only needed one more name. He said it would hopefully be out in early December. Why do you all get so defensive about the lineup being late? it's not that big of a deal. They're replying to people on twitter that the wait will be worth it for the lineup, why would they do that if it's on time?

2020 is not late, last year was early and 2017 was very early!

so if in one month we still don't know the line up then we can start saying it is getting a bit late

because primavera lately has been using the public reaction to make publicity stunts. like posting the angry indiehead last year complaining about reggaeton

The thing is, it’s binary. If you can’t release in early December, you are then forced to wait until a while into January.

And in this case it seems an artist is insisting on a clause that means they can’t announce until they’re ready.

Perhaps best to reserve judgement until we know who it is. If it’s REM, imagine most would be understanding, if it’s the Venga Boys, less so.
