Bit of an underwhelming 'big announcement' this. Basically about eight names (unless I'm missing something)!

Argh! Why have they released a lineup poster which cannot be read?!

Edit: after using a magnifying glass I now realise their not clever names of booked acts but just different activities!

fingers crossed for Carnival Collective doing their regular Fri/Sat/Sun 11am slots on the Outside Circus Stage - I'm there every morning with a pie and lots of cider and dancing to kickstart the day :D HOWEVER they didn't do it in 2017, but I wasn't there either, so hopefully the stars will align and I'll have my usual Pie/Cider/Dance sessions...

Surprised they didn't do a proper named poster. Assuming as they simply havn't got it ready/ acts confirmed? If not just wait longer?

Either way it's a fantastic place and makes me so glad I camp outside PG C and I walk past this incredibly creative area.

Hats off to all involved.

No Carnival Collective this year, but here's a confirmation of New York Brass Band playing Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun somewhere in T&C... last time they did shows fri/sat/sun 8pm on Outside Circus, fri/sat/sun 11am on Summer House, and 3pm Thu on the Gateway, along with another few gigs in other areas, so I assume they're doing a similar thing this time round! Worth a watch if you're wandering past :)

It's a mix. Cabaret was booked in full a couple on months ago. Some of the smaller stages including sensation seekers are still booking.

I don't think The Astrolabe will be big enough for Jonathan Pie.

I dunno, given it's the Astrolabe I assume it'll be his full current touring show - not many fancy taking an hour our to go watch a comedy show in the middle of the festival.

Unless the weather's appalling (which it won't be). I've seen standing room only in there for Jonathan Kaye ffs (2004) and he does a show every day. Hope you're right about it being the full touring show. The Cabaret tent always overflows for the big names (Josh Widdicombe being the latest that springs to mind) and that doesn't even have seats!

It's often not that busy for Steve Frost Improv all-stars (though you have to look to see that Phil Jupitus is part of that). I don't know how busy it got for Ruby Wax last year.

There's also a big difference between the popularity of the afternoon stuff (Kaye etc.) when people tend to be pottering around the site and evenings. Lots will want to see him, and although he is "headlining" the stage I don't think he'll clash with the Pyramid headliners, but will likely overlap with sub/2nd from top on most stages. It's if people would miss that for him.

Does anyone else find Puppetry of the Penis a bit of a weird booking for Glastonbury?

You think? Why's that? I’d like them to go further down the cabaret/sideshow route. I saw The Jim Rose Circus Sideshow at a festival in the 90s and it blew my mind. Highlight of the entire weekend

I've been struggling to work out why. Can't quite put my finger on it but yeah, I agree, I want them to go more down the cabaret/sideshow route. But Puppetry of the Penis are a huge, franchised production that are targeted towards hen parties - they're a million miles away from any of the other circus stuff we see at the festival.

It's like if I said "I wish there were some more nice coffee places at the festival" and the following year they announce that they're going to have a Costa.

Are these the lads who hang anvils and make silly animals shapes with their flutes?

They make the shapes, yeah

Yeah. Good point. I hadn’t considered it from that point of view. I guess they’re a halfway house between a full on circus show and the usual plethora of 2nd rate stand-ups. I really think the area needs some new blood in their booking policy. Mind you, i’m now considering the possibility that PoP and Jonathon Pie came via the same agency/promoter.

Not really - I think that Briefs show they had a few years ago had a man using his nether regions to work a yoyo!

Weirdly they said in Australia they get a lot of men at their shows but in the UK they tend to get a more female audience. Can't say it appeals to me at all but something for everyone I suppose.
