This is probably the first Chems album I've listened to this century. Was a big fan in 94/95, but haven't kept up with them at all. Maybe the last album I heard was 'Surrender'. Think I saw a bit of their set in 2007 (?). Anyway, listened to this album last night, after all the hype on here, and a couple of other places. Yeah, it's alright. Pretty much the same as I remember them, I quite enjoyed it, but I got to be honest, didn't grab me by the balls and spin me around the room. Liked the first track and the title track, but got no desire to go back and fill in the 5 or so albums in between the first few and this one. Thre's no progression there really, is there? Or am I missing something?

This one is much more of a 90's sounding album to me. They did "progress" with the middle albums. Some went in a slightly different direction, but they were not as good.

Personally I am a fan of this one. It is whst they are good at. Some decent collabs & it's gunna be a lot of fun live.

Kinda why I really connect with the last one. I wasn’t paying attention (or had Spotify in the bg ev’ry 2 mins going “HERE LOOK AT THIS YOU MORBID TWAT”) so just got it in one splendid banquet of psychy headmusic. One track after another opening up doors in my mind that needed aural wd40, checked for squeaks and then hotfooted to the next one.

Eve of Destruction>Bango>No Geog, Mad As Hell, Got to Keep on will all do bits in the live show this summer. Record slightly spoiled by the dripfeed of belters. Had they just earfucked me with it yesterday ...

My mate who hadn't heard a single from it until yesterday text me last night raving about it.

Having seen them smash the sweet hell out of The Other stage 3 times already, I feel I’m well placed to advise all of you to go and see them “Do It Again”.

They have a back catalogue that could fill a headline slot 4 times over, re-edits and mixing that makes you want to weep tears of joy, visuals that surpass anything else you are likely to see at any other gig at any other time of your life and the ability to build an atmosphere like no other.

Yesterday I honestly thought I would be heading to The Park to watch Hot Chip, as I wanted to watch my first Park headliner, but hearing No Geography today has spun that full circle.

There is a reason I have seen these boys so many times before.

Put simply, it will be the set of the weekend.

Hands down.

I think you might’ve just changed my mind from HC to Chems!

They’re not really a listening at home kind of act though are they?

Also - there’s no need to fill in the in between albums because with this music you can just go with the beats.

The atmosphere just takes you, the way they build a track isn’t particularly clever, but it’s irresistable.

Was there in 2015, hands down my best Glasto crowd/performance experience ever. Will be there on Saturday with bells on. Think hot chip were there that year also on West Holts on the Sat, might be wrong about the dates, but there's no contest on the two imo. Not listened to the new album yet, but I'm just about to take the dog for a brisk walk...

Exactly. It’s a good album but we already knew most of the belters so a bit of anti-climax

Re-listening now and it's a really strong start, first four songs really bang, then it dips a little for me. I wasn't feeling Gravity Drops or The Universe Sent Me, but holy fuck do they come back strong with We've Got To Try. I now cannot wait to hear that live. The place is going to go absolutely insane.

The Universe sent me is easily the weakest tune on the album for me.

They are though. Their early albums in particular specialised in having one side for the nightclub and one side for at home. Private Psychedelic Reel in particular isn't a club song, it's home listening.

Are there places that play the Chemical Brothers regularly? Outside of their battle weapon stuff I don’t think dj’s touch their stuff with barge poles. Way too obvious. Chems = personal headmusic for me. Always. That pan in PPR is one for the ages.

Controversially, I asked my friend last night about the Jopkins/Chems/HC dilemma and he said:

"I've seen Chems on the other before. Not hard enough, and not loud enough"

"Hot Chip are boring"

"I think this is therefore obvious"

Now, he does have a pretty questionable/deliberately controversial music taste at the best of times, so I'm ignoring the Hot Chip thing straight off. Does he have a point about the not loud enough thing though....?

He’s talking utter shit. It’s been plenty loud enough every single time.

If there was a roof, it would have been blown off.

You’d have a great time at both, for sure.

HC on WH in 2015 is the stuff of legend, but on their day Chems will out do anybody.

He does basically hate everything so I figured it best to get a second opinion

Although now my Jopkins/Chems problem is back on
