Speaking of is this link still supposed to go to the 2019 page @eFestivalshttps://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals

I always used to use it to guickly jump to the rumours page rather than having to scroll through the list on the link westholtschic posted

Not “due” to reform (again) but the Roses have previous for keeping things quiet. They don’t need the money but might feel they have unfinished business with the festival.

I reckon they would just need to talk the fella in the Brazil top in to it and it could be on.

Keep an eye on the webcam for a lemon tree.

Wahey! the Roses and Glastonbury suggestion has arrived. I feared we'd miss this annual discussion of something that is never going to happen.

Glastonbury 2020 feels that bit closer now.

Unless I am missing something quite significant from the various interviews this week, I can't deduce anything from Emily's recent comments that completely rules out Macca.

She clearly stated the two headliners which are booked have not played before. The third could, of course, still be either.

You are aware that they are totally different acts, one is the Pulitzer prize winning, rap god, blending his hip-hop with jazz and funk to huge critical acclaim the other is the country girl who has undergone a pop renaissance to become the biggest star on the planet.  The only thing they have in common is their artistic peak has been in the last decade which admittedly puts them in a minority of headliners but the idea they should book one or the other as they appeal to the same crowd is laughable. The Killers and The Cure have way more in common with each other than Kendrick and Taylor.

I am yes and obviously I though they had more crossover appeal than they do so I'm incorrect on that front. And yes you are probably correct about The Killers and The Cure although The Killers I believe were a fill in?, can't imagine The Cure were first choice either.

He hasn't. Neil has taken him off the rumours page because he is lending more weight to Nick's comments to Scottie from ages ago.

They're done for good. Ian is touring/playing festivals solo next year as well

The Cure were a solid, close to nailed-on rumour from before t-day.

Shite!

100% Agreed.

Kendrick Lamar - Alright

Have previously tried to give him a go because of all the acclaim on here.  Felt like I was missing out, but just not getting it.

Just wasted 7 mins listening to this nonsense - words fail me ...

My musical tastes are all over the place and I am not the sort of person who sticks to one or two genres - good music is good music at the end of the day, but seriously this is complete tosh and cannot believe he is being held up as a potential headliner.

Hard hat on ....

People over complicate Glastonbury. It's simple - someone thing for everyone. Yes there should be strong representation of contemporary culture, but there should be a good nod to the past as well. The two don't have to be at odds with each other and it can all coexist.

Two of my highlights from '16 were Chris and Art Garfunkel. That's the beauty of it.

You have to accept that whatever angle you come at it from, there's always a good chunk of the fanbase who want the opposite. And it's all good and beautiful and we love it all!

Completely agree it should cater to all. I just believe headliners should be paving for the future. I personally get tired of the yearly trend of hopes for indie bands/90s reunions with the likes of Pulp, Blur, Stone Roses, Oasis(with both Liam and Noel still going and taking up big spots) etc. Where as we have a chance of getting 2 brand new headliners of 2 completely different styles and people want to bring up that they shouldn't do it because their fan cross over is too much or its too commercialised, completely forgetting that in the 90s those bands were always on the top of the charts.

Persoanlly Alright isn't my favourite song of his, probably not even top 5.

I think Kendrick comes off as a whole, there's not too many single songs that I would show people because it comes off so much more real on a live performance. If you're not a fan of hip hop its not going to be for you, but god damn I love this performance.

IIRC Gucci Piggy spoke to the daughter of one of the members of the band and confirmed our suspicions, something like that, and yes - pretty sure this was pre t-day

Please unban beloved forum poster Guggy Pig so he can give us the details on who's headlining this year x

Is he banned? He can still up and down vote posts?

If, as someone said earlier, they've been in negotiations over the summer for the 3rd headliner, I can't see it being The 1975 or Foals as, logically, they'd jump at it.

I like mention of Pulp, by the same notion couldn't it fall to Blur? Unlikely though.

I really did think it was going to be McCartney or Elton John.

I’m gonna be respectful and say that everyone is entitled to their criticisms of Kendricks music. I personally think Alright is a fantastic song which has a real clear message - there’s a lot to pick out from it under close examination.

I think what I worded awfully earlier was not that I think Glasto is for the young people - but that Glasto is at its best when it’s reflected important music for the current generation. Like Britpop and Glasto in the 90s was special because it was putting an important musical movement on the largest stage in the world.

Right now Hip hop’s resurgence (if you can really call it that) is massive. It’s probably the biggest genre of music that has benefitted by the streaming generation as it’s appeal has now broadened substantially. The Hip Hop scene has produced some incredibly exciting acts which have headlined festivals all over the world - this is kinda a debate in its own but rap stars are the new rock stars.

Get past the cringe and I think this video explains the issue quite well. Hip hop is an exciting genre at the moment that should get its place on a huge stage.
