2020 headliners

Hmm to me OKCOMPUTER is not #1. In Rainbows to me is just a flawless album.

I don’t understand the love for Amnesiac. It’s still a good album but Pyramid Song, Knives Out, Morning Bell and I might be wrong are kinda all I really like from it. It’s still a great album though... just not the best by Radiohead’s standards.

I absolutely love Anyone Can Play Guitar on Pablo Honey.

more UK no.1 albums than Pearl Jam.

I rest my case.

Oh wait no, I thought that was just a figure of speech.....case closed.

Well I'm not from the UK so that means diddly squat to me. The question was "are they more culturally relevant" not "are they more they more culturally relevant in the UK."

Not a single person I've asked in New Zealand has heard of Foals, and I have a pretty diverse group of friends/acquaintances. Every single person would no doubt have heard of Pearl Jam though. But again, it's "are they more culturally relevant" not "are they more they more culturally relevant in NZ."

OKC has Let Down.

End of argument.

Agreed. But not only that.

It was released on the internet by the (then out of contract) band on a pay want you want, cut out the middleman basis. Unprecedented at the time.

There are varying accounts of whether this was succesful or not.

Only an extra 1c per copy according to this source, but how many free $s worth of exposure did the move get them?:

Smashing Pumpkins released their final album for free on the internet in 2000. Altho the comparability of Machina II’s content and PR success to that of In Rainbows is...subjective.

Please god can we get an announcement soon for all of our sake's. Having to read through pages of people listing the albums of a band who won’t be headlining in a thread about who will be headlining is peak efests nonsense.

Are we still expecting to wait til the new year for an announcement? I can't wait that long... ?

and yet The Cure still had a packed field ... with waaaaaay more than Metallica had.

So Stormzy's bigger-than-the-cure crowd demonstrates he was a suitable headliner.

Come on though, Metallica's crowd was always going to not all that. Come back 10 rows and you were walking through thin air....even Muse last time didn't have a huge crowd, I left as they started playing Madness to go Underworld and got back to friends after easily, they have fucked for a while now imo though. But hey, when you've headlined and played what they've been able to who cares what we thinking they are happy.

I'd disagree, The Cure are very love or hate, they aren't a band that you would to check out for example...been around long enough too....you know if you're bothered.

Stormzy is new and many would have bene curious and that's fine, I'm certainly not against the point that people went to see him but just like like when Mumford did it in 2013 and I liked them more then, I didn't feel it cut it and thought they were a bas choice also for the closing act. I've nothing against Stormzy but I think I'm allowed the opinion that for me it wasn't all that, others are allowed to say it was good also.

I don't think @thewayiam is a troll, in fairness. He has his own views and although some of them may not reflect the majority of the other users on the forum, I think he believes them and that's a completely different thing. Trolls also tend to be temporary accounts and he's been around for a while now.

Haha, a troll! Exactly this, my views, which don't have to be universal!

My sentiments. I like Stormzy and his album is ace, but I was at Interpol so watched his set on telly when I was back and thought it a bit meh...

If you telling yourself that makes you fill better then fill your boots haha

Don't be obnoxious, you've admitted he got a bigger crowd than some established headliners and your argument that he wasn't big enough comes down to your feelings watching it. That's not how we measure big enough, it's about popularity not personal taste.
