Ok...need to re-phrase...the name I've heard (if true) would be unexpected and would raise a few questioning eyebrows...but would be otherwise welcomed by a lot of punters....especially if rumours of fresh material before then are realised.

We're all focusing on the 50th being a pantheon of stellar headliners who haven't played before...kind of save the best for the big party...but what if GFL chose to celebrate in a more retrospective manner.....a kind of 'best bits'....?

Prob said too much now....but it isn't Marc Bolan and T-Rex.

Now I'm picturing a Live Aid type festival...which surely couldn't work.

Tay Tay’s new campaign is flopping so she probably isn’t as overly-ambitious a booking as, in hindsight, she would’ve been during her imperial phase. All seems a bit up in the air as to whether she plays her Big Machine hits going forward but I don’t think Emily would choose to overlook her even if so.

Also, even if there’s no direct whispers about them, The 1975 were a glaring absence from the top of the bill this year which the fest eyeing them up to headline The Big 50 would go a long way to explaining.

They'll want a big heritage act for the sake of it, but this year’s heritage act seemed to be by a distance the least discussed of the weekend so if they could get the above two alongside a slightly over the hill indie band (Arctics or similar) they’d surely be happy.

No matter how many times I read that, it always comes up as "Pulp".

The 1975’s absence can probably be explained by Reading booking them first. Agree that they are a strong possibility for next year though.

Well yeah obvs but if Glasto didn’t have them down as a headline option in the near future they could easily still have subbed this year like Foals and Disclosure. I know those two only co-headlined but The 1975 are bigger than they ever were, and also at their peak right now rather than three years past it like those two were in 2016.

If the fourth album somehow flops later this year then they’ve missed the boat, clearly, but I don’t think that’s happening.

Complete guesswork but a trio of

Kinks, Fleetwood and a modern headliner. With old Reg in the legendary position

would be a vintage year.

Id fully back Emily to make the right call in terms of someone taking the step up! She nailed it this year.

Dunno, given album two still doesn’t even have a release date I think they got a bit lucky with how well Stormzy went down. He clearly smashed it but at the same time he benefited from not having any sound problems, the weather being perfect to put everyone in a good mood, etc.

As pleased as I am for Big Mikey, and relieved they’ve started being more adventurous after the weirdly conservative Florence booking in 2015, I hope they don’t just start throwing caution to the wind and start booking anyone with one successful album to their name. Eg if next year’s poster came out with Lewis Capaldi at the top of it my eyebrows would hit the roof, photo trolling Noel Gallagher or not. Dua Lipa could maybe step up if she came back this autumn with the biggest selling song of the year, but it’d still be a big gamble which could quickly unravel the good PR the fest has received for Friday night.

If that was her I saw this year doing her damndest not to be clocked - and just plain being shielded from view after I'd clocked her anyway - then I presume she was there to check it out with a view to posssibly playing.

I don't see the Kinks headlining. Maybe legends, but no way are they topping the bill.

They'd be one of those acts where it all depends on context. In much the same way that Pixies were topping Reading+Leeds on their first run back but nowhere close to it since then.

If The Kinks came back and it was going to be their only reunion show and so the last one ever, then they could only be headliner. Anything else would be crazy. In that scenario they'd belong above most of the acts mentioned on this thread so far.

If they came back tomorrow, did a year of touring, and then reached Glastonbury after the initial excitement had subsided, then yeah headline would be unlikely.

Foals need their next album to be a smash. The last one was a welcome return to form but it didn’t quite have the impact needed to push them through the ceiling into bona fide headliner material IMO.

They're past the point of changing their trajectory upon release of new albums. They're not gonna penetrate new markets now. If they're booked to headline it's cos of the level they're at now.

Anyone know of a betting market for 2020 headliners other than the SkyBet long list?

Can't see any myself after a good search. Your best bet at this point would be to request it through skybet, assuming it still isn't on there..
