Rose-Colored Boy
Labour’s ‘traditional’ heartlands are voting for Farage these days anyway. Labour’s modern heartlands are the big university cities, if they lose them too they’re completely done.

I think it's more likely than not that Labour are done anyway. The same people who worked so hard for Corbyn are mostly the same people who felt betrayed by the LibDems. Guess how they're feeling about Labour today? Lots of people said it was likely that Corbyn would fuck the Labour Party forever, tho I think everyone was off-target for how exactly he might manage it. Lots of people said it was likely that Corbyn would fuck the Labour Party forever, tho I think everyone was off-target for how exactly he might manage it. All of this is true, but the problem the Lib Dems had in 2015 was that there were liberal-ish Tory and Labour leaders for all the 2010 Lib Dem voters to flock to. They were squeezed out by ‘if you are happy for things to carry on how they are then you may as well just vote Tory’ on one side and ‘if you aren’t happy for things to carry on as they are but also don’t want too drastic a departure then vote Labour’ on the other. This time, The Lib Dems have picked a damn Thatcherite as leader and the Greens are still rendered irrelevant by our hopeless electoral system, so compared to the mass abandonment of the Lib Dem’s four years ago there are limited options for 2017 Labour voters to switch to. If that stays the case, replacing Corbyn with a confident pro-European like Starmer or Jess Phillips might just about manage to save the party from oblivion. The issue is that with Corbyn cultists now in total command of the Labour membership, it’s almost certain to be a braindead twat like Richard Burgon who replaces Grumpy Jeremy instead. To be fair he's the most extreme i've seen, but plenty of the others hold some similar themes dear to them, they just haven't bought the full (tin foil) hat-full of them. It's a mind that couldn't be placated by any policy. We shouldn't be trying.
brettredmayne
Just to say I left Labour and cut up my card as I could not handle been in a party where the leader was unable to have a strong view on Brexit when the party members clearly wanting him to support remain Since then I have joined the lib dems and in Sunderland I thought I would be a minority but we now have 4 lib dem councillors. I've been to a few local events and I now can't see me going back to labour ever.
bamber
So, here we are, there has been a "Boris Surge" and it seems like the Conservatives now have a 10 point lead over Labour. Most of that surge seems to be from men switching from Brexit and Lib Dems. Boris would most likely win a General Election tomorrow in FPTP, which is what we have. Women, sensibly, are still far more suspicious of Boris and Remain inclined. Do you know any Boris supporters? I do. Well off, self employed, male, leavers, yes I know them. Self Interested, deluded frankly (IMHO), certainly no Socialist tendencies whatsoever. Still only a third of voters actually approve of Boris, but that will likely be enough for a working majority after an election. There is no way that the leadership in the the Labour Party will relinquish power now and there is no way that JC is going until he looses the coming election. So here we are. Insane no-Deal Brexit looms. Leavers harp on and on about Democracy, well there is no faint hint of a majority when it comes to No-deal in either Parliament or the Electorate. Yet here we are, they hold all the cards. What can we do? March? Shout? Civil Disobedience? Let them fail and watch our country go to the dogs, then re-join in X years time? Nobody knows, nobody has an answer. We are utterly screwed. I never thought the World would come to this. Hope is fading. This is like a faint memory now. Barack Obama while imperfect, was so, so much better than anything, anywhere that we have currently. I thought all that racist bullshit was over and gone, yet still it abides. This seems ludicrously light hearted in light of our current circumstances, it was so beautiful at the time. I wish we could roll back time. Rose-Colored Boy
Just have to hope the ‘Boris Bounce’ doesn’t last through an election campaign I guess. The Telegraph at the moment is worthy of being shut down.

Summer will come around and it will get extended again and will keep getting extended until someone actually has the balls to cancel the thing. Brexit is a fantasy. Its a nice idea for some but it’s unworkable. Especially when it comes to the Irish border. I just want to see how much support Boris retains when the ATAD kicks in on 1/1/2020.
Ayrshire Chris
I worry about the effects of Brexit and the simple fact that so many voted for it on the misguided assumption that it was all about immigration. Let's be honest how many leave voters knew about single market or customs unions etc? But they all knew the lies that Farage spouted. I also have another fear, Brexit has stirred up nationalism in my country. I really thought that had been defeated but now the union is at threat again. Those wanting independence will use anything to stir up division and xenophobia. All this came about in order to placate the right wing of the Tory party its unbelievable

I think @squirrelarmy is right that a cancellation does seem like the only workable option (I love how they're blaming Ireland too....maybe they should have thought about the consequences of that before they scheduled the referendum!) but I do worry what kind of impact that will have. I would hope that yesterday's absolute spectacle would have shown some people the light, but I fear that a lot of that stuff won't actually get on the radar of brexiteers. The Sun has today led with some shit about one of those dance-based celebrity shows - at least they know when to admit that even they cannot polish a turd. The right wing angle is what was used to sell Brexit to the masses. Anyone who thinks the Tories conjured this up to make the population happy is wrong. It’s all a massive tax dodge sprinkled with disaster capitalists ready to make a literal killing when the economy crashes.

Brexiteers very rarely bang on about immigration now- all the bluster is about fantasy trade deals, like they're 19th century traders out on the high seas. You’ll be aware of how the eu ref vote went in Scotland. Folk like the Greens were supporting independence for Scotland long before Brexit. I do agree that Brexit will aid the Indy cause.
