Don’t plan too much, it takes longer to get around than you imagine.

Leave the wellies in the car and wear some decent waterproof, breathable, walking boots. If it gets really bad you can go back to the car.

Also I tend to pack everything up Sunday morning and dump in car, leave at end of the evening when I’ve had enough as Monday is just too depressing. I have the advantage of being an hours drive from home though. Not as easy for everyone else

In your day pack should be:

  • A torch
  • Waterproof wear
  • Travel Johns (x 3)
  • The drinks you will drink for that day without paying for them
  • A spork
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Your last lock up receipt
  • Your phone (if you must) in an inside pocket
  • Money (obtained from a lock up) in at least two different pockets
  • A notepad and pen (interesting Green Fields talks or someone's number, if you get lucky)
  • A case for your sunglasses
  • Toilet roll or tissues. Double what you think you can get away with

In your day pack should not be:

  • A torch - you have a phone. And it's a daybag, so will be daytime.
  • Waterproof wear - not gonna rain is it? ;)
  • Travel Johns (x 3) - times three??? What are you doing if you expect to be caught short three times? Go to the toilet!
  • A spork - cutlery is provided with any food you buy .
  • A notepad and pen (interesting Green Fields talks or someone's number, if you get lucky) - again, you have a phone.

- Some can't or don't find it easy to return to their tent to pick up something as light as a torch before sunset.
- Fair point.
- Drinking.
- Come unto the world of the Spork, man.
- I don't want to be typing onto a screen at Glasto.

- You still have one on your phone and everywhere other than your tent is lit.

- ;)

- You can still go to the toilet!

- I am tempted when you put it like that.

- Each to their own. :)

I pack up Sunday but drive back at the end to the North West.... it's a hard one!

3 Traveljohns in a day bag? Where do you use them? In a crowd?

I can't even use them in a tent sadly as I have psychological barriers to pissing into anything. But during the day that's truly baffling.

Same. I bought a she wee last year and practiced practiced practiced at home before hand and I was fairly confident with it... but when it came time to use it I just could not do it! The mind is a funny thing.

Twice now I've gone into the female urinal things to use a shewee and had to admit defeat. I tried Traveljohns once too. Absolute waste of money for me. I've just accepted over the years that if I need a wee in the middle of the night I've no choice but to get up and go. Mind you switching to spirits for the evening does help.

Seriously @kalifire what's the use case for taking Travel Johns out with you when there are toilets? Tents I get, but daybag? I'm a bit baffled. Shove them down your pants if you don't want to lose your place in a crowd?

Bring your own cutlery

The Wednesday and Thursday are my two favourite days, it's like being on holiday, no bands timings to worry about etc. I had to miss the Wednesday last time I went (2016) and due to traffic didn't even get in until 2am so set up in the dark. To make up for it we'll be travelling down Tuesday and staying in a hotel Tuesday night to make the absolute most of it. Some of my favourite bits of those two days:

- going up the hill by the sign and watching the sunset

- that slightly smug feeling when you see people on the main paths still arriving with their stuff on either evening when you're sat there with your cider all set up (sorry those who have to come after work but it is a good feeling, only because we went through the carrying and walking bit earlier!)

- that moment when the tent is set up, airbeds pumped up and you have that first can

- just walking around endlessly, exploring for first timers and reacquainting for others

- dusk - it's great when a band is on during that time but when you walk through the campsites with all the stringy lights on just before it's fully dark, drinking a cider and smelling the BBQs it's magical

- the food- more time to explore and pick out nice places to eat, of which there are loads

- easing into the music on the Thursday night with little acoustic sets about and the Williams Green bands on.

- waking up Thursday morning knowing it's your first full day at Glastonbury

- sitting on benches watching the world go by. Even with the best of intentions you don't really do that on the music days.

Now I'm mega excited!

Hahaha. Excellent. One of my absolute favourite things is, once the tent is up and sorted on the Wednesday, sitting near one of the main drags with a pint, and saying to your mates with a shake of the head and a sigh,  'Oooof. Tell you what, wouldn't want to be arriving now'

Quick question!

if I charge a couple of power banks on Tuesday, will they still charge later in the week or they’ll eventually lose some juice when not used? I was always alright for normal 3 days festivals, but with it being 6 days away from home, I wonder if they’ll be fine.

edit: it’s 3 banks 10000mAh each.

Never had a problem with mine. I managed off a 12000 mha last time which did me about 5 full charges. Admittedly phones take more now but seem to last a bit longer. Socialise more and stop taking film and photos when bands are playing and the % will still be good at 2am ?

I’ll socialise alright, but tell a first timer not to take photos ? thanks, seems like I won’t need all 3 then!
