Just seen this online. Shocked. Felt like - perhaps thanks to BBC 6 Music running a few shows about him recently - there was renewed interest in his work.

Only just saw this thread @Woffy, having talked a lot to people about this since yesterday.

Such a shame (pun intended).

I am a fully paid up, card-carrying member of the Spirit of Eden And Laughing Stock Are Masterpieces Brigade.

Child 3 and I were talking about which bands I would genuinely be interested in seeing reforming and playing again. As a non-intentional anti-nostalgist, I am essentially uninterested in rehashing the past and celebrating bands who go on and on and on, gigging to eternity peddling the same old tired 'hits' as they sound more and more like a pastiche of themselves.

I answered him that Talk Talk would be one of the very few bands reforming that I would happily countenance.

Mark Hollis. Genius.

Just booked to go to the Celebration event at Royal Festival Hall in November. Sounds like it should be a good evening.

I was fortunate enough to see them once live, in the rain, at the WOMAD fundraiser "Six of the Best" in October 1982. Amazing event, fantastic band. They didn't get a good reception from the Genesis hardcore (is that a thing), but I LOVED them. The Live at Montreux 1986 video is one of my favourite live shows, have to watch it at least once a year.

Not expecting a show like that in November, but it will be nice to hear the tunes aired live.

I was there - an outdoor show in the UK in October always seemed a touch optimistic! Can’t say I liked them at the time, thought they were sub-Duran pop shite. My opinion did change over the years though....
