Seen quite a few people suggest that this “second main stages” is the R1 being made open air with bigger acts and will probably have staggered acts to not clash with the proper main stage. Bit underwhelming if true but it’s R&L so expected

Kind of a shame to lose the tent too honestly, had such a good atmosphere everytime I went in it - way better than for most main stage acts.

Reeks of 2018 again but we actually know its gonna be tripe unlike then where we expected Foo Fighters, AM and Kendrick Lamar.

I remember the disappointment when Dan said Kings of Leon, Fall Out Boy and Panic

Hes not gonna say the other acts are shite and not the same level is he

At the same time though, would bands be happy knowing they have been booked for the shitty mainstage instead of the good one? mind you if courteeners get to headline it they'd probably be over the moon and not care.

----

wonder how crowd control will work as theres no slope for the R1 tent in reading, putting a band thats moshy there will be interesting to see. I think the dance tent and 1xtra will definitely have to be moved around a bit to fit the crowd.

also calling it now, sound will be shit at the R1 mainstage

Obviously not but if it's 2 full production stages very good chance the good and the bad will be spread out between them, I'd say it's a sound bet they're gonna be side by side at Reading at the very least so I doubt one stage in particular is going to intentionally be the slightly shittier mainstage

True or he may put a one stronger headliner on the shittier one to make it seem equal. Benn will be playing mental games with bands.

Mental games wtf are you talking about? Whatever stage has the first act on in the day will obviously have the smaller acts than the other one as it goes in order.

You gotta feel for kids who have never seen a festival lineup with more than three actual headliners on it and this is just perplexing them.

How does the sound not cross over with 2 stages next to eachother?

Band A plays on one stage while Band B sets up on the other. That means Band B can start playing as soon as Band A finish. And the crowd just have a 2 minute walk between them. It’s to minimise the down time instead of half hour gaps between acts.

That’s sounds alright tbf, but surely each band then has to have less time

No, they have more time if anything, because we don't have to wait 50 minutes between headliners so they can finally get a full set instead of the fucking ridiculous 75 minutes they were being given before.

No, not really. You might have slightly fewer bands per stage, so instead of 8 bands on the main stage, you have 6 bands on each of the two main stages, but that’s 12 bands altogether and very minimal down time between bands. So instead of something like:

Dua Lipa 3-3:45

Don Broco 4:15-5:00

The Vaccines 5:30-6:15

you might have

Dua Lipa 3:00-4:00 (stage A)

Don Broco 4:05-5:05 (stage B )

The Vaccines 5:10-6:15 (Stage A)

So you’ve fitted the same 3 acts into the same 3.25 hour slot, but each band gets longer on stage and there’s a total of 10 minutes down time instead of an hour
