Do you think Janelle Monae wouldve smashed the Pyramid?

I cant stop listening to Dirty Computer. I saw her on West Holts before and she was my highlight.  Judging by all the lacklustre rumours going around do you think Janelle woukdve gone down well and got the crowds on the Pyramid?

I don’t think Dirty Computer did quite as well as was probably expected, but yeah she deserved a shot at the Pyramid. She would’ve nailed it, and also I would’ve actually have gotten to see her. That’s gonna be a great way to close the festival for a lot of people. Hell, if The Cure just ain’t doing it for me I might even make a last minute decision to be there myself, even if she does seem to be ignoring most of The Archandroid these days.

.....but a bit odd to see the generally negative reaction on here to Janet Jackson when they're very much working in similar spheres, and there's a huge Rhythm Nation influence on everything that Janelle's doing.

Yeah I was hoping she'd have a Pyramid slot, I've no doubt that the show on West Holts will be brilliant, but I'll always have the feeling that the experience of her turning round a largely partisan Pyramid crowd would've been pretty unforgettable.

No. I am not a barometer, but I'd never heard a song by her until she was announced. Im glad I have, cos Ive enjoyed the live stuff & I plan to watch her.

I dont know much about her really but she takes me right back to the 80’s and Prince. Has she got his team involved? Did they know each other? If im loving Dirty Computer which of her other albums should Ilisten to?

Apparently Prince wrote the riff for Make Me Feel........and as much as I don't want to say it's the best thing about the album, it definitely  is.

Love that song so expected more of the same from the album but was somewhat disappointed.

To be specific, I seem to remember hearing it was the squelchy synth intro part that he wrote.

He featured on a track on her previous album... which is the only standout track on Electric Lady for me.

She absolutely would have. She's a great performer as well as having loads of banging tunes. Dirty Computer was my favourite album of last year.

Undoubtedly.

She's one of those live acts that you can take someone to who has never heard any of her stuff and they'll leave declaring it one of their highlights.   She's an incredible live performer with a great band.   

I saw her at V Festival playing to an almost empty tent with about 50 people in it while the rest of the site were watching Example (wrong artist for V really) and she still played like she was headlining Wembley.

When she's good she's great. I just hope she's grown out of her random artistic flourishes like spending 10 minutes mid-set daubing a canvas with poster paint. I haven't seen her since the first uk tour though.

Last time I saw her, she finished the set with a pillow fight. Very immature. Clearly regressing artistically!
