The 'Friday Afternoon Rock Slot'

Recommended Posts

Book Def Leppard for it just to piss Andy Copping off. I hate Def Leppard as much as the next person with ears, but I'd love to shove it to the guy with the world's 2nd most punchable face.

As long as they're over 60 and still wear a black wife-beater Im happy.

See Jeff Beck, Iron Maiden, Ian Gillan et al.

I've been consensus-building on Def Leppard for a few years now, but the fact that they're  headlining Download marks them out as too big a fish for this particular pond.

I don't know how many people would know them these days but they've had quite a few hits.

Here I Go Again
Still of the Night
Is This Love
Fool For Your Loving
Don't Break My Heart Again
Love Ain't No Stranger
Give Me All Your Love
Crying In The Rain
Slide It In (madam)
Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City

Been known to throw in the odd Purple song too.

Judas Priest would be a sublime moment in the fest's recent history. Would grind gears until they stank.

I have a vague memory of Lars Ulrich saying something in 2014 about how they should get Judas Priest on. Now Lars is officially a 'friend of the festival', it could happen.

Aint gonna happen with their US dates on the slate this year. One day tho. Last record was an eye opener. These lads still got it.

Is there a version of Thin Lizzy still doing the rounds?

Black Star Riders, not sure they’re big enough for a pyramid slot though

For me it actually better ensures the variety. They're less likely to programme a 2008-style all day run of indie landfill if they know they have to keep a slot free for someone like Judas Priest.

Hard-disagree on this one. Its patronising to a genre that the festival has largely held in contempt.

It kind of smacks of joke shop costume rock. Like seeing some berk playing an inflatable guitar to To You Shook Me All Night Long at a wedding.

Fair enough, i've not seen them for over thirty years, but saw that they were touring a year or two back

Tenacious D are over this way around that time so they would be good to see however it's more likely to be an act like Bon Jovi or Iggy Pop considering ZZ top etc have done it.

Bon Jovi are headline size.  They're not comparable to ZZ Top, Iggy or Motorhead IMO
