Since when did this officially become a thing?

Emily Eavis has revealed that a "metal slot" has now become a feature of the Pyramid Stage line-up, as the Glastonbury Festival organiser gears up for this year's event.

She said: "We have a metal slot on a Friday.

"Which is on the Friday at about 5pm, and that's a new thing that has just started.

"That is now a really big slot.

"I quite like this, I'm quite into the expansion of the line-up beyond those three headline slots."

At previous festivals, Motorhead, ZZ Top and Royal Blood have all filled the late-afternoon Friday slot, third from the top on the main stage.

Glastonbury has become more and more heavy metal-friendly in recent years, with Metallica becoming the first heavy metal band to headline the Pyramid Stage in 2014.

A new metal stage then appeared for the first time in 2017, and it will return with an even bigger stage in 2019, curators Earache Records have confirmed.

Huh. Passed me by that it was official.

All these 'slots'.

Soon every slot will be an official slot. The-third-on-the-Park-on-the-Saturday-slot slot.

Admittedly I don't dig on this chat about "slots" either. To my decrepit mind there are 4 stagetimes of note on the Pyramid each year. 3 x headliner and Sunday evening sop to the blanket & brexit brigade. 'Sit.

Feels a bit like that thing from that Friends: rules help control the fun.

Except in this case Emily has verified that it's  actually "a thing"

That thing being a slot though surely, CalGon?

I'm probably missing something philosophical about the subtle difference.

Schrodinger's Slot. Is there a thing inside?
