New Beck album out today. Very minimalist in contrast to Colors.

Beck is a weird one for me. Got some great material early on but nothing he has done since Guero has bothered me at all and when I have seen him live he has been average at best. But then he does stuff like this which is possibly the best thing I've ever seen.

That performance is incredible!

Ah I'm a massive Beck fan, though I've only caught him twice. Think his recent output has been fairly solid, though the down tempo stuff (modern guilt, morning phase) has probably been his most consistent. Colors had some great tracks but was a bit overproduced.

Dreams is a banger too:

Mellow Gold and Odelay are still two of my favourite albums, but I dunno, his recent output just hasn't had the same punch for me. I agree its been solid, and like you say, there are a few gems like Dreams scattered about...

If he had another album or two in the same vain as Odelay, he would possibly be one of my all time favourites, but I've just not felt it for a while.

That being said, I am very much looking forward to giving his new album a spin later!

I mean, it's still Coldplay so if you've never been into them it's probably not going to change your opinion but I'm a self confessed early-Coldplay fan. Haven't liked anything they've done since Viva La Vida right enough, but even after one listen I'm quite comfortable it's the best thing they've released since then.

There's still a few missteps, Daddy is overly schmaltzy even by Coldplay standards, Orphans is a bit too close to their last few pop heavy outings for me but in general its an enjoyable listen.
