Albums of the Year 2018

She’s good value is Cardi B with her guest spots and her internet patter, but that album was very weak for me. Not heard Money yet though.

From the daily 20 mins I spend in the car with the OH, I noticed CB was getting a lot more play on the commercial radio stations as the year progressed. Wouldn't surprise me if she became a bigger deal over here with album 2.

A few that spring to mind...

Gaz Coombes - World's Strongest Man

Big Red Machine - BRM

Artic Monkeys - TBH&C

Interpol - Marauder

The Shins - The Worm's Heart

Paul McCartney - Egypt Station

Parquet Courts - Wide Awake!

Alkaline Trio - Is This Thing Cursed?

Mastersystem - Mastersystem

Kurt Vile - Bottle It In

Villagers - The Art of Pretending to Swim

Looking back at my list, these are all decent albums, but nothing for the ages.

Agree that it's a month too early for this, especially with some of the albums we've still got coming this year, but I also don't like that people are making lists without me.

...

I'll wait. Anderson. Paak and Kanye could end up running away with this (still holding out that Kanye hasn't totally lost it, possibly foolishly).

I think this thread would be more useful if people also list their favourite albums of all time, so I know who to trust! At the moment we just have lists with no idea if the lister shares our taste in music.

Is typing some band names in to Youtube/Spotify really that much effort?

My favourite album of all time is Abba Gold.

Nope, but I can get random lists of albums recommened by YouTube or whatever, it’s just nicer to know what someone’s personal tastes are like when they make recommendations

My favourite album of all time is Muse - Drones.

But on a real, the point of these threads is really just to see what the eFests consensus on the best albums of the year are rather than to act as recommendations. If you read/post in the New Music 2018 thread you're more likely to get that. If an album is popping up in loads of lists that I haven't heard then I'll probably give it a listen, but if a Frank Turner album pops up in one person's list I ain't gonna listen to a Frank Turner album in 2018.

Ah! I mainly read/post in the old music thread, so I’m clueless with more recent music. I just thought I’d post a way to make it a bit more accessible (I do need to get up to speed with albums released the past few years, I’ve been neglecting new music!).

I do usually just check out the albums that keep getting mentioned, but nothing’s particularly standing out, and there’s always the risk of missing out on a lesser heard one.

A few from me but have to say its hard to beat First Aid Kit - Ruins as my winner.

Gaz Coombes - Worlds Strongest Man

Idles - A joy as hard as resistance

The Coral - Move Through The Dawn

Johnny Marr - Call the Comet

The Orielles - Silver Dollar Moment

Shame - Songs of Praise

I've been the same but I decided to make a concerted effort this year to actually keep on top of new music and I'm so glad I have. So many great albums I've heard this year that I'd have totally missed in years gone by.

Yeah, I don’t like to think about all the albums I would have loved but never encountered! I hate just listening to snippets of songs on YouTube etc- most of my favourite albums took weeks/months to get into, so I’m worried I’m missing out on stuff I would have grown to love.
