When passed the aux cable at a party this evening, I choked and put on Cardi B instead of SOPHIE. This naturally throws doubt my AotY ranking, so I may not even get it out this weekend.

My foundations are shook, is Cardi B really a better time than SOPHIE or was I just trying to water down my own soul in the face of the very Cheshire posh folks I'd be eating if I had conviction in my beliefs?

I think it's just common courtesy not to play abrasive, practically anti-social music around people trying to enjoy themselves. Doesn't mean you like it any less.

Didn't get chance to listen to some albums I had planned to (Lucy Dacus, Snail Mail, Spiritualized and a few more) , or to give enough listens to some albums which may have been up there (Kamasi Washington, A.A.L., Julia Holter), but then I guess that means they didn't really draw me back in enough to make this list.

Loads of good stuff across the year actually, thought it'd been pretty light until I started compiling it. 2018 is nothing to sniff at, but not as mad as 2017.

*Kamasi is recipient of the "this is well good but I've not got the time or concentration span to really absorb it right now but I can tell it's good and I'm well into this artist's previous work" award which last year went to Bjork.
