I realise it's only the start of November but I imagine a few AOTY lists have already started to take shape. Naturally, Simulation Theory will shoot right to the top of everyone's lists on release but interested to hear some of your AOTY's so far. Also, I'm too lazy to go digging through the 2018 New Music thread for recommendations.

Feels like sort of a low-key year doesn't it? No blockbuster names have released anything of note, nobody's come up from the sidelines and made a massive name for themselves, there's no real universal acclaim amongst the hivemind for any AotY.

And yet I think IDLES will run away with it on this forum.

Agreed, definitely up there for me but still seems less clear cut than Lorde last year who absolutely romped him.

Yeah I was thinking this not long ago. Last year it was clear DAMN. was gonna sweep up top spots on AOTY lists, 2016 had a few big name albums with strong critical acclaim (Beyoncé, Radiohead, Bowie, Cave, etc.), 2015 had TPAB.

Fuck knows about this year. IDLES is the closest thing I can think of to having universal acclaim but they're a bit niche to be sweeping up all the AOTY awards.

This has been like the festival in '17 for me.  No massive releases that made me lose my shit, but there's been a very high proportion of stuff that I've really enjoyed listening to.
