WM Hall
Yo La Tengo are significantly 'bigger' than Courtney Barnett (and also have a woman in the band)
SweepingTheNation
rararachel's comparison was between Van Etten and YLT (and wasn't even that straghtforward), not Courtney. YLT are not going to be the new headliner. Edited August 5, 2019 by SweepingTheNation

Saw Orville Peck as well...seemed like a very EOTR act so hoping he gets booked for next year. I also saw Squid on Saturday and they were so tuneless, unmelodic and unremarkable I left after 10 minutes. Quite enjoyed BCNR on the other hand. Was it a slow start or just a musical difference of opinion?

I do think the hype for them is a bit unwarranted at this point but they seem like they could become a good band. BCNR were as scintillating as ever. Not the best I've seen them but they set the bar stupidly high from last time.

WM Hall
Squid, I hate to say, aren't very good - no tunes and a very generic sorta-krauty post-punk thing that's been done 1000 times

I also saw them on Saturday and was impressed and think they’ll be great at EOTR. Edited August 5, 2019 by 93jag01

They do wear their influences on their sleeve to a certain extent, but IMO it's a little unfair to cast them off as 'just another post-punk band.' What they're doing is much more interesting than the likes of Idles, Shame, Viagra Boys etc. BCNR I like a lot musically, but the self-indulgent lyrics make me cringe. The singer also sounds like he is doing a posh public schoolboy imitation of Eugene Robinson on several occasions. A difference of opinion because I think BCNR are incredibly overrated
WM Hall
It's all opinion, that's the beauty!!! I think BCNR are great and Squid are rubbish - others think otherwise!

Sometimes theacts themselves will announce at the end of a set, or ask the band when they are flogging their tat at the end of a set, or Line of Best Fit send notifications or, best of all, ask my mate Paul, who has Big Jeff levels of knowledge

Tuna
So does this create a Low/Courtney clash? (or fix one?) Edited August 6, 2019 by Tuna
goldengirl
It's not really a like-for-like swap, expenditure wise surely? Hopefully Beirut's band fees will be spent elsewhere at the festival. At least I hope this means that Kikagaku Moyo and Courtney won't clash. I don't really want to see Low or Kate, both seem like a bit of a yawnfest to me...
shoebox
This is the worst possible outcome for me. Cannot abide Tempest and now there's a Low/CB clash. Gutted!

Mr Bean
Any chance that extra band in The Big Top on Friday means Kelly Lee Owens now goes on after Parquet Courts/Kiwanuka have finished?
